I have a 1986 Corvette 60,000 miles. This morning on my drive in I noticed on the dash cluster temp read as LO even though I had travled on the turnpike over 25 miles averge speed 75 mph and AC on. Car ran fine the entire trip.  Does any one know what would cause this?? What should I check?? Thanks

that is usually the sign of a thermostat stuck open. replace that for starters and most likely it will correct the situation.

Could it also be a temperature sensor?

it could be but i doubt it. IMO, if it was a sensor ther are a number of things that might show. it may throw a code, it could effect other settings by sending the wrong info to the ecm. he said that the car ran fine except for the temp.

when i bought the 90, it did the same as he described. changed the stat and everything was fine. my 90 was the first car that i really worked on with a computer and it was driving me crazy. a guy told me something a teacher told him when he was in school for auto and it saved my sanity and a lot of time and money. what the teacher told them was to troubleshoot the engine first as that's where most of the problems are. do the computer last.

i was doing it backwards and things were getting worse instead of better until i went back to the basics as suggested.
