The clutch on my '92 started slipping. I have the stock ZF 6-Speed and am also considering boosting horsepower with the Edelbrock LT4 package (100hp base hp increase). What is the max rear wheel horsepower the stock clutch is recommended up to?

The stage II is rated up to 475 RWHP but I don't want to buy a heavier clutch if a new stock clutch would be more than enough.

If you know the specs for the stock clutch or have experience in this area, advice would be appreciated.  Also after reading the problems people have had with replacing the clutch I'm wondering can a stock clutch be re-built? Good aftermarket recommendations?

reman clutch maybe but definitely not the pressure plate. Close to 100% failure rate with reman Pressure Plates.

You should be fine. I am running 375 rwhp with stock EOM clutch and pressure plate. A stage 2 should drive like stock. If you are using the stock DMF flywheel make sure to use a sold clutch (not sprung like most cars). LUK was the OEM manufacturer.

Thank you!  As I've asked around, a transmission specialist agreed with you in that the LUK OE clutch should be fine.

The clutch story goes like this. Stock clutch plates are available from any of the Corvette suppliers. Dual Mass Flywheels may be hard to find. The DMF can not be machined. If you were noticing any intermittent clunking at idle it could mean the cushions in the DMF are shot. If you go without the DMF your transmission will be quite noisy.

Find a good mechanic and be prepared to spend some dollars, but its Ok because its money spent on your corvette.

Good Luck.

Dual-mass flywheels in otherwise good condition can be successfully resurfaced.  Jim JANDIK at Powertorque Systems, L.C. (www.powertorquesystems.com) did a superb job with mine that has been reliable and trouble free with OEM pressure plate and clutch disk.  Bill BOUDREAU (ZFDoc) at www.ZR51netregistry.com provided a new, blueprinted ZF 6-speed, and the combination resulted in flawless gearbox/clutch operation in my '93 base convertible.
