This last weekend my 85 wouldn't start unless I put my foot on the gas peddle. noticed that the check engine light was not comming on when I turned the key to the on position.Broke out the old shop manualfrom GM. with a jumper ire put it in diagnostic mode and nothing. so checked the bulb it was burned out. put a bulb in. then with jumper pulled out turned the key to the run position and light flashing fast and continuous. checked Shop manual checked ground points and manual said ECM faulty. Went to NAPA and purchased reman AC delco ECM put my chips in it. Went through the testing of all relays and solinoids for ohms over 20. all was fine. so replaced ECM. turned the key to on position check engine light came on just like it was suppost too.tryed to start and no good fires but wont stay running unless I put my foot on the gas peddle. so broke out the manual and went through the tests again wont flash at all when in diagnostic mode. went through all the tests and the manual say's ECM faulty. I am about to pull my hair out. so now I will go to Napa and try to either get another ECM or my money back. the main problem is this is my daily driver. so please everyone please wish me luck. or if anyone has any idea's or something I've missed please post, Thanks!

Try unplugging the MAF sensor...then check if it will start and idle w/MAF not connected....if it will idle.......MAF sensor MAY be bad. I think there was a campaign back in the day... on '85 MAFs'

Will it RUN if you keep your foot on the pedal, or does it just start and die? If it will stay running, then I'd venture to guess your IAC(Idle air control) motor is stuck, or otherwise damaged. Or there is a major vacuum leak somewhere...

sorry it took so long to reply. After replacing every sensor which needed to be done. lots of miles. then replaced all the wiring in the fuel injection system all engine wiring. and new ECU. finally figured out what all the problem was. after all that still really bad gas milage and wouldn't stay running at idle. the only thing I hadn't changed was the chip. bought a stage one chip from Ekler's corvette and when I went to installed it one of the former owners had put the stock eprom in upside down. now from what I understand the only reason the car was running according to someone I know that used to work at the corvette factory. is that it was in field test mode. so now that I have a good chip and it is in the right way the vette is what she is running great she is getting better milage. "haven't ran a full tank through her yet but no more soot coming out the exhaust.hand she Idles at 750 RPM. in drive and the trans shifts totally different just amazed on the difference. thanks for the help you guy's if not for you I would still be sitting in the engine compartment pulling my hair out. I do need to work out a shimmy in the car around 63 miles an hour hope it's just a tire issue.

great to hear you got it running. that was one thing i would have never even guessed but then again after the issues i had with my 90 because of someone who thought they knew what they were doing, i can believe anything. bet you will cut way down on your travelling expenses nowThumbs Up.
just an added thought... i would have expected a bad iac as joel stated as when it went in my 90 i had to step on the gas to keep it running.

I did call the local vette guru and he said just to diagnose it would be 200.00 an hour. and he said maybe five or six hours. not including parts. It has been very much a pain so far granted I payed very little for this car and I new it would have a few problems but really how does someone put the eprom in upside down if it's in the carrier it right it will only go in one way. granted that may be the reason I got it so cheaply. so lose lose or win win. LOL.I am looking forward to really getting started on resto modding this thing have some great ideas. She is a daily driver so it will be slow going but I am taking lots of pic's and soon I will start posting them with what I'm doing that is if everyone seems interested.  Engine wise she is now bulletbroof now would trust it to make it to alaska and back. Plan on doing something really cool with the interior I think you will all like I hope.
