I just did the top end on my CFI, Higher compression heads and long duration cam. I was certain the new information going to the ECM was not allowing the HEI distributor to advance. I replaced the distributor with a mechanical advance set up and corrected the the problem and now pulls hard to 6000. My issue is the dashboard "ENGINE" light is now on steady. Is there some way to send a signal to the ECM to trick it in to thinking "all is well"?? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Yours is OBDI and mine is OBD II but, I was having a problem with the MSD rev limiters triggering the "random misfire" code when I used the staging limiter. The sensor is on the timing chain cover and only really looks for misfire. In the OBD II programmer, the "engine" page has a list of all the engine tests and you can turn the test "off" or just whether or not it sets the MIL. I can flash mine with "LT EDIT" but I think you would have to get the chip burned similarly for the test setting the code to prevent the light coming "on".

I'm assuming you have also replaced the intake, and gotten rid of the throttle bodies/injectors? If not, how the heck is it getting a signal to fire the injectors? Is that signal coming from the MSD?
What code(s) is it setting for the light to come on, anyway?

Yes. Got rid of the CFI and replaced it with a Performer intake and Holley 750 with a drop down 14" x3" filter all fits under the hood.

Also, I haven't put and OBD on it but I'm assuming that the ECU is getting every code possible

This is after I removed the CFI and replaced with Carb. There is a whole bunch of stuff I did to the motor of course and there are a few issues I would like to deal with such as removing the ECU and the harness from the car completely but I'm still trying to figure out what the ECU is continuing to control. So far I can figure the P/N switch, the fuel usage guage and possible the cooling fan switch o I'm not ready to remove yet.

why not take the the bulb out ?  the ecm is now running the dash not the injectors  what did you do about the fuel pump      nice job getting it under the hood I did something  like that a few years ago and used a spector air horn to reuse the SLP ram air that went to the TPI & now I have upgraded to the eldebrock  airgap RPMwith a spacer now the air filter is even with the top of the hood when people ask why the big cowl hood I tellem look inside  HA got em   my secret weapon is about 500hp   no bottle yet havnt needed it but I am more than willing to upgrade to a fogger 250 shot  and nothing is better than crushing a GT500 shelby with  my old red hot rod that I paid 3,500  for hehe
