Got a 95 vette that has a wierd starting issue after it sits for a few hours. What happens is the starter engages hard enough the car rocks but wont turn the motor over. Let off the key and try again, car starts right up no problem. It has a newer battery, cables are tight and cleaned. After it starts it wont do it again  till after it sits for a few hours (4 or so).

Is the starter original? Is the starter shimmed properly? Are the mounting bolts tight? A misalignment of the pinion with the ring could cause the starter to bind up.

I would have it checked out in any event....

Certainly sounds like a starter issue.....

Sounds like hydrostatic lock to me. Fix it before you bust a connecting rod.

Let it sit a few hours, then pull the plugs. Disable the ignition system by pulling the primary connector off the coil. You don't want sparks if there's fuel in a cylinder. Crank it, and observe if / which cyl any liquid comes from. Determining if it's fuel or coolant, will dictate the repairs needed.

The starter is about a year old.I might just take the starter over to the rebuilder and have him go through it. I would think if it were a leaky injector it would miss till it cleared out the same with coolent. But I'm not ruling anything out yet.
