I have a 96 LT4 with 150k on it, its a daily driver for my son.  It just started banging on the right side(passanger), took off the valve cover and the number 8 cylinder intake rocker was dancing around.  Took the intake off and I got the old lifter out.  I did not note what side the oil hole was on the old lifter when I slid it out. I'm not really sure if it it matters, my thinking was to put it on the left side under the block gally hole between the 2 #8 lifters.  What ya think?  Gona start buttoming it up.  thanks!

UH...not sure I get the question...but...the lifter spins in the bore anyway. As the cam rotates, the shape of the cam lobe, and how it rides on the bottom of the lifter cause it to spin. If it doesn't spin, it will wear the cam AND the bottom of the lifter out fairly quick. If the bottom of the lifter you took out is concaved, or in any other way worn, chances are(99%) the cam lobe is also damaged, and installing a new lifter in there will accelerate the cam wear....

Sorry for the confusion, it is a hydraulic roller lifter and there is a keeper to stop it from spinning in the hole.  My only choice was to install it with the oil hole to the front or rear of the car.  The problem I was experiencing was the lifter would not pump up.  I optioned to just change out the single lifter and put the rebuild off till I have another car.  We are sharing cars now.  Thanks for the review and question.

Rollers don't matter, either...the machined area in the lifter where the oil hole is will allow pressurized oil to get to it, regardless of if the hole faces front or rear. I shudda known it was a roller by the year model....DOH!

Putting the Intake back, the little platic "stays" did not line up no mater how I positiond it.  I had to put new hole in the gasket and relocated them about 1/4" over and the gastket laid right.  Anyone run into this before?  Hope to start it tonight.  Thanks!
