My questions are:
Will my check Eng light be on?
Will I see codes? (I think I will)
I have heard that I may have to do a retune. If so who do you recommend I get the tune from?
My question to you is:
W
hy?.........Is it causing a problem?
Here's the answers to your questions:
No.
No.
No. (Although it may have difficulty starting in low ambient without some fudging to the CTS correction).
The cold start injector is not ECM-controlled. The ECM will not have any indication that the cold start injector has been removed. The cold start injector is stand-alone. None of it's wiring is interfaced with the ECM. It is only energized in the START position, when certain coolant temp requirements are met. Again: It only functions during cranking, at lower coolant temps. There is also a time duration curve that decays the longer the engine is cranked.
I have owned a 1985 since new. I live in Southern California. My cold start injector is fully functional. The engine almost starts too quickly for my liking as it doesn't crank at all to build up some oil pressure prior to firing. Even after months, sometimes years, of sitting. I've thought about unplugging it to slow down the way it starts, but never have. This car is going to outlast me, even with a few dry-starts a year.
I'm curious to hear why you think your cold start injector should be removed. If it works, or if it doesn't function but doesn't leak, leave it alone.
EDIT ADD: I just looked at my FSM. There is a 3 amp fuse in the RH IP panel marked "CRANK". The
only device this fuse powers is the cold start injector. Removing this fuse will completely disable it. Remove it, and see if it still starts satisfactorily.
