The weather was good over the weekend and we put the top down on
Sunday and went for a ride the last time I was in my own convertible was in 1968 Satellite, 383 with a Hurst 4 speed. We had a great ride until I pulled into the garage the steering rack was leaking like hell. I took it to a mechanic that my friend uses for his 1981 corvette and he did check out my car when I bought it in Nov2016 and said the rack had leaked but since it sat for a while it was not leaking but would leak when I started using it, he was correct.
Got the estimate for a remanufactured or rebuilt rack, new starter as I was having issues, fuel filter parts and labor $1000 bucks. When I bought this car I expected to spend a minimum of between 500 to 1000 to keep it running in good condition it' s a 29 year old car.
I was curious what owners that use a mechanic spend on average a year to keep their C4 going. In a week the rack will be in and I hope this will be it for 2017. He was amazed of the condition of the under side no rust and he saw no other issues car was always garaged and has only 68000 miles on it.
My mechanical abilities were with old vw beetles, much simpler representing a much simpler life style maybe I should have bought the 1974 convertible I looked at, na I need the roar of a V8, the sticker shock at the pump, vacum hoses all over the place, and most of all I love the RIDE and it's a Corvette in all its beauty and faults.
Take care!!!!
