Nobody wants to die in traffic. With these common-sense rules but somewhat less than common driving recommendations, you may just endure some ugly roadway ordeals.

Driving suggestions for survival No. 1 - Adjust the mirrors so there is no way can see your car

This is something very simple to do before you embark upon your journey. Considering that your car's blind spot is a frequent trigger of accidents, some people invest in automobiles with costly radar and camera systems. These do work, but what a lot of people are missing out on is the fact that if you adjust the wing mirrors properly, these fancy gadgets are unnecessary. Angle the mirrors away until your own vehicle is no longer visible, then leave the mirrors there. For some reason, not every person does this.

Driving recommendations for survival No. 2 - Don't read the signs, read the traffic

Make sure you are always watching the road rather than trying to figure out what all the signs mean. As important as signs are to directing traffic, studies have shown that roads without signs are really much better. When not looking at signs, drivers have more time to react to the cars around them and are more aware of the situations. Studies showed that intersections were safer without any signs or lights.

Drive better without music

A study conducted by Israeli researchers found that test subject motorists tended to experience a more level heart rate when listening to music. This may seem like these drivers were calmer and would perform better on driving tests, but the truth is that in the presence of music, they were less focused on driving. Thus, they were more likely to run red lights. When the music was of a higher tempo (between 120 and 140 beats per minute), this problem was accentuated.

Car headlights in use all the time

A recent study suggests that if a car's headlights are constantly on while the vehicle is driven, the chance of being involved in an accident decreased by 32 percent. Other drivers tend not to pull in front of you if they can see the glare of headlights. Pedestrians and cyclists are similarly hesitant.

Keep your automobile from rolling with a brake

Every little thing in your car needs to get used regularly if you need to avoid corrosion and rust on the cords and cables running through your car. One example of this is the parking brake. The cable will rust if it is never used making it extremely hard to use when you need it. Use it regularly, and also you may just guard your car.

Driving ideas for survival No. 6 - Do not slam on the brakes during a blowout

Your car will fishtail and possibly flip if you slam on the brakes during a tire blowout. This is the natural reaction, but it is important not to do it. Keep your automobile on a straight line to keep control and hit the gas firmly for a couple of seconds. Turn into the blown tire and the car will slow on its own.
