The weather here has been great, but I've been so busy with work, and feeling like I've been dragging butt.  We've also been busy and preoccupied with my husband's recent hip replacement surgery a week and a half ago.  He's doing really well with the recovery, even though he can't get in the Vettes yet.  I haven't had the "new" 85 out for about 2 weeks now, so thought I'd take her for a spin this afternoon.  What a fun car to drive.  I was feeling a little "blah" before my drive, but afterwards, I felt great.  So much so that I went out to do some gardening and then I washed the Explorer.  My husband even commented on how much I perked up after the drive.  Yep, a fun drive in the Vette energized me and made me feel so much better.  I need to do that more often!  Hope you're all enjoying your cars, too.

I'm so glad to hear that the tranny issue was sorted out so well and that you're enjoying your car.  Good deal!

It is so nice to come here and here some positive things being said. We all love to go for long rides in our cars, and enjoy the smile that each drive gives.
From the sounds of things you have had your plate quite full these past few weeks. You deserve a break. Hope to hear you hubby is doing fine and can get back behind the wheel soon.

driving your vette anytime perks you up. the only thing is is when and where you get out of itSmile. as was said it is especially great when you take the top off and cruise. have only used the a/c in mine about 4 times only because it was raining. drive it as much as you can.Thumbs Up

My 85 still has an issue that needs to be sorted.  Not a huge deal, just haven't gotten around to it yet.  It needs a new brake master cylinder.  It gets pretty spongy when sitting at lights, and that's why I don't take it out so much right now.  As soon as hubby is doing well enough to drive the Explorer, we're going to get the 85 over to our mechanic and have that done.  I have a feeling I'll be driving it much more frequently when I feel more comfortable with the brakes.  Right now, I don't like to take it out in heavier traffic, such as to and from work, because of it.  I do drive the 95 to work once or twice a week, though.  That car is an excellent runner - drives and sounds fantastic and feels really good.  But, I have to say that going for a fun ride rather than a traffic-filled drive during rush hour is a LOT more fun!  I haven't driven either with the targa off, though.  I need to do that.  I had a convertible (not a Vette) that I recently sold and do enjoy the wind in my hair.

Wow.....you WERE feelin good!! LOL

Since I rarely drive either of the Corvettes anymore, any time behind the wheel of either one is a great day! I do get the same comfort when I'm on the Goldwing, which is pretty much every day....tho it ain't the same as cruizin the Corvette(s).....
Hope the hubby gets healed up quickly, with no complications, too!! Best wishes to him.Thumbs Up

just a quick question laurie...did you try bleeding the brakes? may just have air in the lines and not need a master cylinder. just a thought.

It might be a good idea to drain all the brake fluid as well and start fresh.... as the years go by the fluid can get really gunky which affects how well the brakes respond.

Another option regarding the master cylinder is to get a rebuild kit - pretty easy project. Did mine a couple of years ago and it made a big difference

Thanks for all the well wishes for hubby - he's getting better everyday.  Tonight, he gets the staples out of the incision.  Hopefully, by the weekend, he'll be able to drive.  It'll still be a few more weeks before he can get into a Vette, but he can get into the Explorer, so at least he'll be able to drive something.  I know he misses driving.

As for the master cylinder issue, we already did the line bleed and so forth.  Further inspection shows that the seal on the master cylinder just isn't doing it's thing so well, leading to the pedal drop, drop, drop at lights.  So, it's a new master cylinder or a rebuild of the current one.  Our mechanic is giving us a fair deal on a new one with a warranty, so I think that should be okay.

The first owner didn't drive the car much at all.  There's something about 28 year old cars that haven't been driven much - things "dry up" and need to be replaced from lack of use rather than from lots of use.  Fortunately, the previous owner (who owned it for 4 years) replaced most of that stuff when he had the car.  But, he only drove the car for limited occasions.  So, it didn't get much use out of that owner, either.  Me?  I like to drive my cars.  Even if I could afford it, I wouldn't want to spend $250,000+ on a car that's going to sit in a collection.   But, I'm glad there are people who do that sort of thing, since I do enjoy looking at nice car collections.

I sure enjoy taking mine out.  Targa is off from April to mid-November.  I have both tops so for the winter I use the acrylic top to let the light in.  The hard top just sits in the garage Ha Ha. Yea it's the possitive part of living in the California desert.  The a/c doesn't work so I simply leave it in the garage during the mid day heat in the summer.  Great for early morning and evening drives.  I seldom even turn the radio on as the exhaust noise is music enough.

C4s can be a b**** for a guy with hip problems but soon enough your hub will be enjoying your corvettes again.

I have in-laws up near where you live and we get up there once in a while. Vacaville.

I agree about the exhaust!  We often don't turn on the radios in the cars for the same reason.

Y'know, the only reason I haven't driven with the targa off is because I'm a bit nervous about the flex.  My driveway has a fairly steep incline in one part of it, and with the targa in place, I hear the sounds when pulling in or out.  I wonder if I should pull the car out first, then remove the targa before driving without it?  What do you think?  Typically, it's top off weather around here from sometime in April through November, as well.

Vacaville is so close to us.  There's a nice Corvette shop there, Corvette Express, that does everything from general repair to full restorations.

Just an update about my husband.  A few days ago, he started driving again.  Now, he still can't get into the Vettes, due to them being so low to the ground, but he feels that he should be able to do that in another week or so.  I know he's happy to be able to drive, though.  He gets into the Explorer so much easier now.  I take that as a good sign that he'll have an easier time getting into the Vettes, as well.  We went to an all Vette car show and a car history museum today.  Between the two, he's definitely chomping at the bit.  We also saw one of the most beastly Vettes we've ever seen.  A '63 coupe that's been modded with a marine engine.  Puts out over 600 horses and 600-ish lb feet of torque.  Awesome sounding and a beautiful car, as well.
