Depends on the year. The 6-way "power seat" adjuster is on the seat base. So these connections and connectors have nothing to do with which seat (sport or base) is installed on top of them.
84-93 with the lumbar, recline, and wing switches mounted on the seat require a 2-wire plug with B+ and Gnd to provide power to the seat itself. Not a big deal at all. B+ power and ground for the seats can be tapped at the power seat switch in the console.
The 94-96 with the lumbar and wing switches mounted on the console will have a much more complex connector to the seat itself. (I've never seen one, can't elaborate). Plus incorporating switches for these seats into a 84-89 interior would be challenging.
EDIT: For the OP's questions:
Yes, it is a simple swap out. As long as you use an 84-93 sport seat.
Yes, the seat belts are the same.
Yes the seats install on the same bases, and have the same bolt patterns.
No, I've never done it. My 85 came with Sport Seats. But I am familiar with the nuances of the different seats in the C4 years.
One more thing: You ask "are the seat
frames the same"? Let me elaborate. After you remove the bottom cushion, you will see 4 bolts that hold the
seat to the
base. Remove these 4 bolts, and what comes out is the "seat". The "base" remains in the car. The base is identical for either type of seat. The two types of seats are completely different. (They appear very similar other than the control buttons and switches). Nothing between the two seat types is interchangeable. They are completely different.
