Never had this problem with our '95 or this '96, but I cannot get the hood to come down in the usual fashion.  It seems the hood has very little play pushing it forward to engage that the lower arm portion with the arrow on it.  Any ideas would be most helpful.  Thanks so much,  Frank

It sounds as if you have a lot of experience with the clamshell hood but I have to ask if you are sure the split rod release is releasing properly to allow the 2 halves to retract into themselves?

The whole system seems to be moving from the bottom connection attached to the frame so I'm not sure about anything at the moment.  Would love to reach you by phone if possible.

Some more info would help. There are two bolts holding the hood to the hinge and two holding the hinge to the frame probably with some large flat shims for height adjustment. They both can be adjusted to square the hood and move it forward or backward.

When you drop the hood to the latches, and push on the hood, can you feel the springs flex? Does it lock in? (You should be able to do either side in fact I prefer that to dropping it when closing it.) The males on the hood are adjustable to change the closed height. Loosen the locking nut and turn it in the nut held to the plate. Undoing the 3 smaller bolts will all the whole plate to be centered over the receiver.

You might also check that the gas strut isn't binding on something when it is closing as there isn't much room next to the A/C compressor.

I appreciate you taking a few moments to respond with some thoughtful comments.  Over the weekend I removed the existing strut only to find it was still thoroughly stuck in the open position.  At that point a new one was ordered for delivery this week and only hope that solves the problem.  I'll keep your suggestions on file.
