Not all the cars have a chip for the cooling. I changed our radiator to a after market aluminum one, added a 180 thermostat and had to add a second temp sender in the front of the left hand cylinder head which triggers the cooling fan to come on at 180-185 degrees. All works very well but on hot days (SoCal) with the A/C on in slow traffic it will still go to 200 or 210. Some cars had HD cooling and the second temp sender is already in the head. I believe that may be when a chip mod is needed. Trying to remove the giant allen head plug in the head was futile. we had to drill it out and tap the opening to accept the 2nd sender.

I have a 93 corvette. My analog gauge always run low and my digital gauge always always ran high. I asked on this forum which was right or how do i check them. No one could tell me anything worth a darn. I found that the #1 fan was factory programmed to come on at 108.5c or 227f. Fan #2 was set to come on at 235f. I believe this is why the engine oil got to 260f during racing. Based on the these numbers the digital seemed much more in line. I reprogrammed the chip so that #1 comes on at 190f and #2 comes on at 200f. The car runs cooler now.
