I recently bought my first corvette . It is a 1985 c4 . It was the first car bought in a collection owned by a gentleman from Rockingham  NC. This car has been in a climate controlled  14 car garage it's whole life and has yet to spend a night outside in the weather . I have window stickers , maintenance  records .sales receipt, and order forms from where it was  originally bought.

This car has never had the targa top off of it .. The tool used is still in the wrapper ,as well as the vhs tape showing how to use The new state of the art Bose system that is in it also still in the wrapper  ..The car has a little over 30.000 miles in it and is immaculate inside and out ..

This is my question .. Every one who see this car tells me to leave it just as it is 100% stock ,don't change a thing .. I would like to upgrade to a cd player as this has a cassette player now for one , and I saw a vette recently that had the original aluminum rims chromed .. I really liked this but don't want to do anything that will deface the value of my car .. What are the latitudes as far as changing from original parts to new ..

If you want to keep it original, why not add an FM adapter like this:

Then you can plug in your mp3 players, iPhones, iPods, iPads, or any other music player that you want (even a CD player if you are still into that old fashioned method or even worse yet you can plug in a cassette player but you don't need to do that as your radio has a cassette).  I found it easy to install because the radio antenna connection in below the storage box behind the passenger seat and for power just splice into the orange wire leading to the radio unit there.  I use it more than the CD's and I have the Delco/Bose Premium sound system with CD player.

You will need to order both of the following GM antenna adapters to fit the unit above:
and

It took me less than an hour to install as everything was plug in stuff and then I set my radio present #1 to one of the two FM channels and I was ready to listen to my music on any of the above devices.  I am contemplating adding an extension to the RCA connectors and the power wires to the switch so that I can install the adapter switch up under the dash on my Vette.

As far as wheels go; just put what ever turns your crank on the car..... but keep the originals for shows & judged events like NCRS; or if you decide to sell.

Changing the stereo is a little tricky, since it has the Bose system. It can be done, but it requires a lot of mods. The FM adapter is a good alternative.
As far as the rims, I have the original rims stored, and bought a set of chromed originals from a friend that was changing his to something else.
If you want to keep the car as original as possible, just stick with bolt-on mods....stuff that can be put back to original easily. If you plan on actually driving the car, plan on having to replace some stuff along the way...belts, water pump, alternator, shocks, etc. all are wearable parts that will eventually need replacing, especially since the car has been sitting for so long, even in a controlled environment.
Congrats on the purchase! Sounds like a real sweetheart! How 'bout some PICS!?Thumbs Up

Congratulations!  Sounds like a great car and looking forward to pictures.  As far as originality, well, you can always make some changes and keep the original parts, for things that can be swapped out without too much effort.  I had an 85 that had already had the stereo changed, but the previous owner included the original stereo.

Purchased a 1986 Convert August 2013, Bright Red color with a black top, it'd already received a Tremec 5 speed upgrade along with a disc upgrade prior to purchase.

I have to agree, don't make any changes that cannot be easily reversed.
For your radio, Ecklers has a plugin harness that you can wire up a new radio to and not cut the harness: http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corvette-radio-wiring-harness-and-connector-1977late-1989.html
Find another set of rims you like and mod them as you like but keep your originals as they stand.
You don't mention if you bought this as a driver or as an investment.  Any way you look at it, if it can be restored easily to original condition that's a plus in my mind.
Definitely post pictures when you can, it's always enjoyable.

In addition to the connector to fit whatever stereo head you use, you would also need a speaker interface to be able to use the Bose speakers/amps.
The above link appears to be for a replacement, stock harness connector for the factory stereo.
