Last Saturday the Nashville Corvette Club sponsored a Car Show. We had 116 Cars in the show, 43 of them were Corvettes. Among them was this 1954 Vette owned by Dale Johnson, Dale Paid Ross Restorations of Nashville to take the car completely apart and then restore each individual part of the car. Then reassemble the car with all the original parts (including the "Blue Flame" straight 6 engine.)  This is the car that won BEST IN SHOW in Carlisle. Dave has been offered and has turned down 1 million dollars for this car. It is truely an amazing site to see and is more art than it is automobile now. thought you guys might enjoy a glimpse at it.

The car would have to have some kind of "history" to be worth that. Do you know of anything that would make the car "special", like maybe it was owned by a celebrity, or was there anything mentioned about that?
Not that it's not a nice car...it certainly is, but...'54s just don't bring that kind of cash without some pedigree. I'd like to hear more about it!

Definitely a sweet '54! Of the 3640 '54s, only 100 were Red...the second least popular color, with Black being the rarest, or least popular.
Still...there HAS to be some sort of back story on this particular car....or the guy just really doesn't want to get rid of it....

To the best of my knowledge there is no special story behind the car. The restoration would be a story in and of itself though, the amount of detail they went thru on it. But if you win Carlisle I guess you could argueably say that you have the finest Corvette in the world. Since money is not an object for this guy (A multi-millionaire in his own right) I guess he was after the bragging rights more than the money.... Just a guess though, I really dont know. But you can bet if i find him at one of my corvette club meetings I am gonna ask....Approve

Not meaning to downplay the $$$, or the final product, ya unnerstand. Just don't unnerstand the idea that a '54 would ever be worth that kind of cash, without some kind of history. I LIKE the car..I like all of the old ones, restored or not. I've seen hundreds of the '53-'55s over the years, and every one of them leaves me in awe. A fully restored solid axle is definitely a sight to behold.
I see plenty of really sweet restored '54s for around $100,000 or less, with the exception of the black ones, or ones that have history of some kind.
Got any more pics?

Nope, no more pics right now, will see what I can do later. I don't disagree that a million dollars for ANY car is crazy, History or not! But apparently there are people out there with more money and less sense than us. Wink. I doubt that he will get that kind of offer again, but he got it once and thats all it takes to set the price. It's outa my range even at 1/10th the price...

Maybe this car has a low production VIN ?  I've seen cars with VIN 0001 go for more money.... it's beautiful, but not a million dollar car.... I don't car who owned it unless it was Zora and he autographed it - and it's documented.

don't even think with his signature or a low vin number would make it worth that much. barrett - jackson had the last corvette made in the plant before bowling green and the first one made in bowling green being sold together. the both of them only sold for 300,000.
just an added piece of info is that they were being auctioned off  for a benefit so that jacked the price up a bit. what was cool about it was the guy that bought them, donated them back to be auctioned off at the next auction.Thumbs Up.eddie208902010-11-05 18:26:41

Well it only takes one offer to set the standard, and that offer has been made and turned down. So While none of us (including me.) can see the value, it will cost that much or more to buy "This" car. I just wish I had enough money to even entertain the idea of spending a million dollars on ANY car....
