I have an '86 and have been trying to find an easy way to align the headlight cover (flat piece) with the hood when closed. Saw a post where someone said that it was an easy four (torx) screw adjustment. Yeah, after spending a day removing the whole headlight assembly! Is there any other...simple...way that I'm missing?

The top piece is just held to the headlight assembly with a few torx screws....it can be moved around some to get the front/rear & side/side to line up. You may never get it perfect, but...most weren't from the factory.
Unless your '86 is different from my '85...

Rotate the headlight assembly to 90 deg from closed. You can do it electrically by opening the lights and turning the switch immediately towards the closed. Alternatively, turn the motor manually with the knob on top of the headlight motor. ( you can watch it turn when the lights open). Then you can get at the side screws that hold the bubble cover over the assembly, and the two screws above the front of the headlight. Once you remove that cover, you can get at the hidden screws for the flat cover. Between them and the two exposed above the headlight, you should be able to get the height you want.
