This project is to reduce some of the tire road noise coming through the cargo area. GM only gave us thin fiberglass, some fiber insulation and mass back carpets that are not very effective so I thought I'd do an easy upgrade. I bought a bulk package of Dynomat (since the bulk price is better) in which there is 9-18x32" sheets thinking I'd sell half of them . I've used 8 in this job and the one left will do most of the area on the bulkhead just behind the seats. I used almost all the little pieces so there's almost no waste since you can stick and I mean stick the pieces wherever you need to. That included the inside of the speaker boxes which are also the top of the wheel wells and something of a pig to do. There's about 4 hours of dissamembly and reassembly required and lots of "hunched over" and crouching inside required. I found some rarely used muscles shall we say.

How much did it help?
Fred,
It's been raining and to continue most of the week so road test is postoponed. I just weighed the last full sheet and it came in at 1.5 pounds so I'll have added about 13 pounds total. Banging on it during the install, the stuff really seems to work. I'm running 315 M/T's which puts 12" on the road right behind me so I'm hoping to be impressed with a reduction in road noise and resonance. May help the radio too but the one thing Ferrari got right, you don't really need one.

OK
I am thinking about doing the same-
Did you also cover the bin lids (or just the inside of the compartments) and are there any issues with the added thickness causing the reinstalled carpet to be level? It is hard to tell from the pictures.
Thanks Fred
I didn't do the lids but I did line down the sides of the wells. Plus I don't have any left to do the tops. It would be easy to do them later though since the carpet just peels back there. The ABS compartment actually has a deadener sheet under the cover. I didn't have any issues with the carpeting, it's so sloppy. If anything, I realized how bad the factory carpeting fit is. I'm going to try adding a little padding under the inside corner of the wheel well to try to improve the way the sides hang and smooth the top.

wiating on batch of material. but found that just stuffing a thick pillow in each compartment made a one hundred precent diff in road noise. not permenant of course but just tryed it and was very impressed.

Thanks, will probably do the same in the future- Fred in Alabama
Did a road test today and there's zero road noise from the back of the cabin. More wind noise than anything else now. Still some rumble from the Corsa's but they're pretty good anyway. All in all, I'd say it was well worth the effort but I'm glad it's finished.

As soon as I get my weatherstrips replaced I will be tackling this same project. I have decided to use the dynamax liner and will just remove the spare tire and hanger to make up for the weight diff.
