Vette(s): 1984 base coupe 17,000 miles all original. very low production number.red on red 3853. pro num.
i look on my build sheet and didn't see anywhere for a targa top no code nothing at all. however on my window sticker all it said was a removable top. no charge. I'm wondering if this means a painted top. doesn't a see through top have a code allso was there a extra charge for it. or does it mean it could have been for both tops up to the dealer when ordered.

The cars came with a painted top. The transparent top was an option(CC3). The car could have been ordered with both, or only one. If you do not see RPO #CC3 on your build sheet, then the car was not originally equipped with the transparent top, but it could have been added by the dealer, or someone else.

When I bought my new tops at Thompsons Astro Tops he looked inside the console compartment under the armrest for a code that told him the right color of tint mine came with. Don't know if that helps any, just sayin....

I couldn't find CC3 in the Black Book. CC2 is removable hard top for a convertible. $1,995!

C2L = dual removable roof panels. Car had one painted, and one acrylic top.
24S = blue tint
64S = bronze tint

If you see 24S or 64S without C2L, then the optional acrylic panel was fitted instead of the painted roof. Car had only the one acrylic roof.

Another piece of trivia regarding the painted roof panel. The body-colored roof panels were painted by they supplier, and delivered to Bowling Green as a finished, ready to install part. So the paint was not always a perfect match to the rest of the car, as the batch for the roof was a different batch than the body. Same deal with ORV mirrors. Also painted off-site. They don't always match either.

'84 & '85 had the CC3 "Removable Transparent Roof Panel" option for $595(15,767 sold) in '84, and the same price (28,143 sold) in '85.
'86 started the dual panel option, and the tints. Thumbs Up

Learn something, or are reminded of something one should know, everyday.

My car has a painted roof. The acryllic panel is one of two options it isn't equipped with. (The other is CB radio). So I don't know the answer to this question: Were the two colors available in 84 and 85? If they were, the RPO's aren't shown in the Black Book, but that doesn't mean these codes weren't used in those years. The Black book has lots of discrepancies with listing available, or utilized RPO's for C4's. 24S is shown as a 1977-1999 RPO. 64S the same. 1977-1999.

The '84-'85 tops were of one color tint...a smokey/blackish color. In '86 came the blue(24S), and bronze(64S) tints for the transparent targas.

A guy on CF posted a pic of his 1985 SPID that shows both CC3 AND 24S. It is a late car, but it indeed has the blue roof option on the SPID. I thought there were colored roofs in 85. It may have not been all model year, but they were certainly available by ser# 33841.

I can't figure out how to include pics in posts on this forum. So here's the link to the CF post:  http://forums.corvetteforum.com/1584030170-post15.html

Sho 'nuff! Right there it is! Wonder when they actually started offering the other tint colors for '85?

33,841 VIN is a lot later than mine(15,xxx)....
