What is considered as "good shape"?...what is "bad shape"?
Just paint?
scratches?
broken and cracked?

The question is; will it supply you with what you need?

This is from memory, so if I missed something, someone will chime in:

First, you need a FSM.  A camara.  Baggies.

Not sure if you are just getting pumpkin or whole batwing, doing on in a garage with a lift or on your back on the floor.

You’re gonna need good jack stands (like 8 or 10 tons) to get the car up high enough to work on, you need about 18 inches or more if you are on floor.  Really a couple floor jacks or a floor jack and a transmission jack. Remove the spare tire carrier, rear tires and the exhaust up to the cats.
Jack up and support tranny with transmission jack or floor jack.  Remove the leaf spring (using a floor jack as you do each side to relieve tension) and take note of number/placement of shims on each side and take pictures. Keep them separate.  Disconnect and remove half shafts from pumpkin shaft and use tape to keep u-joint caps on and take pictures.  Remove C-Beam bolts at tranny and pumpkin (which will be the biggest PITA you will encounter both taking apart and putting back together Censored). Disconnect drive shaft (use tape again) at pumpkin, slide driveshaft and C-beam forward. May have to disconnect parking brake clip to put cable aside. Disconnect lower camber arms, take pictures and upper tie rod ends from the bat wing, take pictures, and push them to back of car.  Remove batwing bolts from one side, lower that side then do other side. Or put floor jack under batwing, remove bolts and lower all at once.

Did I say take pictures?  Did I mention you really need a FSM?

Since it’s a used pumpkin/batwing assy., suggest you drain fluid and change at minimum.  Replacing differential seal is also not a bad idea, you don’t want to do this all again when you could have taken care of this stuff on a workbench.  Also, if you want to lower your rear, just buy the new bolts and bushings (see our supporting vendors), now is the time. Oh yeah, also a good time to replace u-joints.

This can be a pain, if you have a friend to help, so much the better.  If not, be patient, you can do it yourself, just be careful.

is there a way to take out the whole thing as 1 rolling unit... like on the ebay pics........ ROTOR TO ROTOR...  its seems to be away to take it apart and push it around.

i mean TRANSVERSE (PLASTIC) rear SPRING and all, dog bones and all.... like unbolting brake lines and taking the complete rearend out.. batman wing and all.

THE GUY I GOT IT OFF OF SAID HE started TO clunker 4 junker it...BUT DECIDED HE'D BUILD A HOTROD..         thank god or i would't of been able to afford it.

WHEN I GOT IT, THE CAR HAD NO REAR,MOTOR OR TRANNY....  THE GUY WHO I GOT I FROM STRIPPED IT AND MY PARTS WENT TO A 1930 SOMETHING CAR..

my glass top fits, but the 2 front screws arent lining up correct. (i think i need some kind of conversion kit)......       and my 87 has a DITIGAL  heater and air conditoning thang.... is that normal...my haynes man. says its normal for 88....

First yes it can be done, and if you need any pictures let me know.  I have a 90 that I have pulled mine out of.  You have no small job ahead of you.

Basics.  Get it up, and very stable before crawling under
Support rear suspensions... and make sure it is stable even if it rotates on you.
Disconnect battery
Remove rear tires and rims
Disconnect and remove driveshaft
Disconnect and remove C-Beam
Disconnect Ebrake Cable.
Disconnect brake lines.
Disconnect Electrial wires and unbolt from body these lines (For Wheel Speed Sensors)
Remove any lines or anything that will be in the way
Unbolt 3 bolts each side from the dog link bars going to rear suspension
Disconnect upper bolts from bat wing.

Make sure to mark all bolts and where they came from.

Baggies are the great idea as mentioned from above.  Make sure they are gallon bags as some of these are long bolts.

Again make sure to take lots of pictures, and if you need more let me know.

Before putting the assembly in your car, clean all parts, and replace all rubber if you can.  Then when putting it all back in, if you run into any trouble post it up and you will get plenty of help

Feel free to surf this thead about my car

Skimming the pics will help some where I pulled my rear out.

Hopefully this weekend I will be putting in some more frame, and putting in the rear wheel tubs.  Beyond that I want to finish the rear compartment, and then the two rear kickers for the roll cage.  Thread will be updated off and on as I work on it.

Feel Free to PM me if you need any help

Dana 36: First off, no need to apologize, we are all here to help each other out and clarity is subjective to the reader dohme.

I can't remember from doing it if you could drop spring as part of the batwing.  I followed the FSM when I did it. I don't have a Haynes, not sure how much detail it has on removal.  I guess anything is possible, maybe someone on here as done it that way.
As far as your top, go on the net and search targa tops for Corvette, one of the suppliers will have a diagram of the fastener pattern (there are 3) , you may have a later top.  You can get the right one to retro fit yours. Can't speak to your digital heater, someone with a 87 could tell you, but if you have RPO C68, that was electronic air conditioning control option which was also available in 1988.  I'm pretty sure the buttons on your seat are controls for up, down, forward, back. Should be RPO AC1 and /or AC3.
RPO Z52 was the Sport handling package.  From the Black Book, "included radiator boost fan,  Bilstein schocks, engine oil cooler, heavy duty radiator, 16x9.5-inch wheels, faster 13:1 steering ratio, larger front stabilizer bar and convertible inspire structural improvements for coupes".
Hope this helps...

yep he was right

i looked at a site with corvette RPO and it said that (c68) was an 88 option.....    BUT mine is a 1987 ???????????????

maybe it was an 87 1/2 opt.....    WAS THERE AND 871/2 ???????     OR MAYBE my car was from the future... LOL

i also have (ac1) and ac3)

when it comes to the buttons on the  seats ....I WASNT CLEAR ON WHAT I MEANT lasttime...

im not talking about the (seat buttons, that make the seat move) im talking about the little circle buttons on the righthand side of the seat.

Does the 1995 cars have the buttons on the seat.

What does the heat and air controls in the 1995 look like?

C68 was also a RPO code for 87    http://www.web-cars.com/corvette/options.php?optionyear=1987

Not sure what your buttons are on seat, need someone with a 87 to answer that one.  95 has seat controls on console.
