Just paint?
scratches?
broken and cracked?
The question is; will it supply you with what you need?
Jim
"good shape" too me is light scratches and faded clear coat.... now the "Bad shape" hood has a broken piece near the batt.
First, you need a FSM. A camara. Baggies.
You’re gonna need good jack stands (like 8 or 10 tons) to get the car up high enough to work on, you need about 18 inches or more if you are on floor. Really a couple floor jacks or a floor jack and a transmission jack. Remove the spare tire carrier, rear tires and the exhaust up to the cats.
Jack up and support tranny with transmission jack or floor jack. Remove the leaf spring (using a floor jack as you do each side to relieve tension) and take note of number/placement of shims on each side and take pictures. Keep them separate. Disconnect and remove half shafts from pumpkin shaft and use tape to keep u-joint caps on and take pictures. Remove C-Beam bolts at tranny and pumpkin (which will be the biggest PITA you will encounter both taking apart and putting back together ). Disconnect drive shaft (use tape again) at pumpkin, slide driveshaft and C-beam forward. May have to disconnect parking brake clip to put cable aside. Disconnect lower camber arms, take pictures and upper tie rod ends from the bat wing, take pictures, and push them to back of car. Remove batwing bolts from one side, lower that side then do other side. Or put floor jack under batwing, remove bolts and lower all at once.
Did I say take pictures? Did I mention you really need a FSM?
Since it’s a used pumpkin/batwing assy., suggest you drain fluid and change at minimum. Replacing differential seal is also not a bad idea, you don’t want to do this all again when you could have taken care of this stuff on a workbench. Also, if you want to lower your rear, just buy the new bolts and bushings (see our supporting vendors), now is the time. Oh yeah, also a good time to replace u-joints.
1st of jimmymack.............I'D LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR ASKING ME TO BE CAREFUL..
IT MEANS AAALOT.... THANKS FOR THE NICE WELCOME AND FOR TAKING THE TIME TO HELP A FELLOW VETTE OWNER. IVE BEEN SLAPPING motors and trannys in CHEVYS AND PONTIACS FOR ABOUT 11 YRS AND I REALLY NEVER MESSED WITH the SUSPENSION PARTS.. ive had aleast 30 antique gm cars but never played with the suspensions.
sorry about not being clear on what i meant....
is there a way to take out the whole thing as 1 rolling unit... like on the ebay pics........ ROTOR TO ROTOR... its seems to be away to take it apart and push it around.
i mean TRANSVERSE (PLASTIC) rear SPRING and all, dog bones and all.... like unbolting brake lines and taking the complete rearend out.. batman wing and all.
i know you no how to do this, i just wasn't clear on what i meant.
my car is a 87 red, 87000 ORG. MILES.......5 OWNER... 3 GIRLS OWNERS SO THE INTERIOR IS FLAWLESS.....i CANT FIGURE OUT IF THE INTERIOR HAS BEEN RESTORED OR NOT.......IT has buttons on the seatS (IS THAT A PACKAGE).......and my RPO CODES says z52.. what does that mean.
THE GUY I GOT IT OFF OF SAID HE started TO clunker 4 junker it...BUT DECIDED HE'D BUILD A HOTROD.. thank god or i would't of been able to afford it.
WHEN I GOT IT, THE CAR HAD NO REAR,MOTOR OR TRANNY.... THE GUY WHO I GOT I FROM STRIPPED IT AND MY PARTS WENT TO A 1930 SOMETHING CAR..
my glass top fits, but the 2 front screws arent lining up correct. (i think i need some kind of conversion kit)...... and my 87 has a DITIGAL heater and air conditoning thang.... is that normal...my haynes man. says its normal for 88....
short story.... i bought the VETTE and 2 hotrodderS were happy.....
thanks jimmy mack....just alittle more INFO please...
Dana 36: First off, no need to apologize, we are all here to help each other out and clarity is subjective to the reader me.
yep he was right
i looked at a site with corvette RPO and it said that (c68) was an 88 option..... BUT mine is a 1987 ???????????????
maybe it was an 87 1/2 opt..... WAS THERE AND 871/2 ??????? OR MAYBE my car was from the future... LOL
i also have (ac1) and ac3)
when it comes to the buttons on the seats ....I WASNT CLEAR ON WHAT I MEANT lasttime...
im not talking about the (seat buttons, that make the seat move) im talking about the little circle buttons on the righthand side of the seat.
Does the 1995 cars have the buttons on the seat.
What does the heat and air controls in the 1995 look like?
C68 was also a RPO code for 87 http://www.web-cars.com/corvette/options.php?optionyear=1987
