I drove my friend's C5 FRC. He has a "short" shifter that was really cool. Does anybody have any experience with
putting in one of these short shifters? I can get a short shifter kit for my C4 for about $160. Is it difficult to install?
The C5 was "big and bulky" It drove nice but I didn't feel the sports car feel that the C4 gives me. I feel in "control" of my C4 when I'm driving it. I'll keep my C4 "Thank You Very Much"!!

I tried a B&M short shifter in my '92. It made it a lot harder to shift. I could live with it. But,i f you have a significant other with little or no "guns" you will be reinstalling the old one.
They work on the principle of less leverage, less travel. = Less mechanical advantage = More effort.
I put B&M Mega-shifter in mine. Sure, it's automatic and it's also not supposed to be possible. The electrical was actually the bigger issue but that's another story. My point here is that, to drop the handle, I put a 2" shorter stick for Camero on it and found the pull noticeably stiffer. Not intolerable but not nearly as smooth. I'm going to cut the tunnel and drop it to the ladder between the trans and rear. That will move it down to a more comfortable height with the longer handle. Will even move a little like the old muscle car shifters and I'll be able to feel her breath!

There is another way to shorten the your shifter throw without changing the shifter. I grab the shifter above the reverse lock out using my fore finger and thumb wrapped around the shaft thus shortening the handle you are actually using by about 2 inches and I haven't missed a shift the dreaded 2-3 shift since. Just changinging your grip may help? FWIW
