I Need input from anyone who has recarpeted a C4. I have a '96 black LT4 with black interior. I got a full kit from Mid America (no instructions and pieces unlabled) and a foil kit for noise and heat reduction. So far I've removed the rear carpet and more questions have come up. The jute backing which was origional is in great condition and I'd like to keep it. It is loose on the metal underneath. Do I glue the jute to the metal then the insulation over the jute? When I was rebuilding boats the reflective silver was placed on the outside to keep heat out. I saw an article about redoing a Vette about a year ago and they were covering the inside with the silver up. That makes me feel like it will keep the heat in. Should I place the silver side down under the jute or on top of the jute. I'll be taking the car back to FL so I want to keep heat out. Can I get some input on how to arange the underlyment for the carpet to get max effectiveness for reducing interior heat.

Put the heat barrier(foil insulation) down first, and be sure to seal all of the splices/junctions with foil tape. You can use a spray on 3M adhesive to hold the heat barrier to the floor, but use it sparingly, as it holds pretty well.
All of the heat barrier stuff I've seen had silver/foil on both sides...if your's is one-sided, I would think you would put the foil side down, next to the floor, but who knows?

The heat barrier kit should be installed foil side up; the other side is compressed fiberglass material (at least it should be). Install it like home insulation. The jute padding will lay over the barrier as barrier is only 1/8" thick. The factory did not glue the padding or carpeting in the back due to the size of the rear greenhouse. Frequent replacement was anticipated due to sun exposure, etc.. I have done numerous interior replacements in 4th gens., I have never glued except for console sides. It is actually not difficult, just time consuming. P/M me for my # if I can help, I'll be glad to!
