The exact reason I haven't dared try mine yet. I'm afraid, so afraid. Does the radio work? I have not yet got advice from anyone recommending fixing Bose at all. I would imagine that you'd have to pull the head unit out, disassemble to remove the CD or Casette.

Welcome to the world of your screwed in the C4 Bose Radio world. They always break and the CD goes too. I recommend Dr. Don's Radio service, Did a great job for me and I did the upgrade. I have no affiliation with him.

I've never heard of doctor don but he's one of my favorites on my computer now. I'd love to have my rear speakers redone and then I'll try the CD and cassette. Ha Ha.

I removed my bose system just a hint pack a lunch when it comes to the door speakers lol I did reuse the plastic housing I had to cut them a little to fit the new ones in now my 84 Z-28 has a bose that still works & sounds great but it only has 26,000 miles on it& my C4 has 120 plus
If you are not hung up on keeping your car original, dump the Bose and buy a new unit. Crutchfield has a number of radio's in various price ranges that offer more functionality (Bluetooth, USB, Pandora, Hi-Def, Navigation). Just replaced mine with a new Kenwood and what a difference, should have done it years ago.
If originality is what you want, Dr. Don has a very good reputation.
