Topic: My 1992 Corvette won't start
in Forum: C4 Electrical
My problem resolved. The new battery which was installed day prior to taking over to the radio shop was low in charge. The shop was installing and took 4-5 hours and had the electric lights running all day and drained the battery. The battery reading was less than half mark and it cranked but did not turn over. I hook the battery charger/jumper and hook it up for a few minutes and then set the charger on Start and it cranks up immediately. So it was simple, the C$ 1992 will crank but won't fire up if the battery charge is less than half charged.

!990 Corvette won` start. Please e mail me your information on vats fix tbales0612@ yahoo.com Thanks. Bought car ,drove home and it ran fine. next day drove for 5 miles and quit. Person had replace ignition tumlbler with one without resistor key. He had put resistor in wires. I think it went bad. Do no have original key to determine resister valvue.
My 93' did this exact thing. I checked resistance on the keys. Bought the correct ones, soldered then in, narry a problem since. VATS is junk, or the contacts in ignition switch are junk. Maybe both. You tube had Very good information and sequence to by pass the system. I went the same route as others. Battery, starter, and solonoid. No good! Big dollars for empty results. The Resisters, Less than a Buck, and done. Time consuming, but now the stress is over. Starts first time, every time!
ZR1CK recommends a shop manual, and the best one I have found is from Bishko Automotive Literature, which offers a CD of the official GM Service Manual for a very reasonable price; I have the version for my 1995 Z07 coupe, and would highly recommend it as you can locate the pages that are pertinent to your problem, print them out and then have just a page or two to reference while you are working, rather than paging through an entire manual. Either way, hard-copy or CD, a service manual of some sort is essential to DIY repairs.
