thanks for the warm welcome guys.

I hate to ask for your help my first day here, but... my power window (driver side) stopped working recently, any advice? is it usually the switch or regulator? best place to buy these parts cheap?

Thanks
John in Phoenix

that's what we are here for john. it could be either one of the two. if you have a test lite yo can check at the switch to see if it is getting power to the switch. if it is you can check the "out" side to see if power is going to the window motor. then check at the motor to see if there is power. should be able to tell which is bad. you can try the sponsors on this site for prices or try ebay. if you need any other questions answered just ask away.  good luck dave

if the electrical checks out okay and the motor is operating, might there be a chance it's the ribbon that was used from '84 to '86? A guy in town has a 86 and had to replace one of his ribbons but I don't remember what symptoms he was experiencing.

All of the Vette parts suppliers carry these.... here's a link to the one on Ecklers  http://www.ecklers.com/corvette-window-ribbon-repair-kit-1984-1986early.html

If your regulator motor is broken and you can afford it, you might try upgrading to the newer style C4 regulators.  I was lucky enough to find one on Ebay for about $125 brand new. No plastic parts, so if want to avoid another broken plastic track, go for it. I found directions online to do the upgrade. It only required one more hole drilled in the bottom of the door.
Good luck.

Having similar problem on RH door of my '84. Switch
checked OK. Disassembly of the door is a pain, motors are about $40, assemblies are spend at about $265. Long handled rivet pulleys are available from Harbor Freight. Makes pulling new big rivets easy.

Thanks for the rapid response. My Droid misspelled puller as pulley.

Sorry to have to wake up this sleeping topic.  Drivers side window does not work. Previous owner was trying to figure it out but died before he did. The stress from the non functioning window may have had something to do with it. The door was apart so connected everything and only the window did not work.  Pulled the connector off the motor and found no power.  Went to the switch, tested good with power to and from.  Checked power window relays in fuse panel, tested and swapped them, all good. I have the dash off and tested the connection on back of the fuse panel and that checked out.  The wires going from the fuse panel are wrapped and difficult to follow so am having a hard time with the next step. Looking online, saw something about a power window module. Is there a module?  If so, where?  If not, any other thoughts.  Thanks.

Just wanted to post what the issue was. As stated, the drivers window had no power at connector that plugs into motor. This was an issue the previous owner was working on son the door was in pieces when i got to it. After tracing all the wires, found the connector for the window motor is the same for the speaker amplifier in the door. I saw the connection and assumed that it must be right if it connected. These plugs are not idiot proof and I may have done the same thing if the plugs fit. Just an fyi. U never know what someone else did to the car before you got to it. Check everything.
