Help......I bought a polished & ported plenum and runners a while ago, well I was able to change the plenum but not the runners. I can't get to the back torx bolts and I really don't want to pay someone $60 hour to take out a couple of bolts I can't reach. Is there a trick too this? I have the chiltons book and tools, I'm not a mechanic but I have done most of my own work so like I said I really do not want to pay someone. Confused

I did this using a long torx bit.  You can get these with a socket drive already attached or just get the 1/4" hex shank and drive it with your own socket.  I got the long torx bits from McMaster-Carr http://www.mcmaster.com/#torx-bits/=1l8sg9  Pay close attention to getting all of the bolts, a few on the manifold end of the runners are not obvious.  Also, make note of where each bolt came from, there are several different lenght bolts.  Once you get all of the bolts out it should come right apart.  Be carefull if you decide to use some persuasion on the tubes, they are thin and dent easily.

the only one that is the real pain is the one on the driver's side by the distributor. i took the torx socket and put a short extension and a knuckle and then a longer extension and managed to get the bolt out and in. there should be three different size bolts. the two longest go on the botom and the mid size goes in the holes that go straight thru the intake manifold. the short ones go in the rest of them. at least that's the way it is on my 90. if joel sees this he can probably answer better as his is a  85 too. hope this helps.Thumbs Up

Looks like ya'll got it all handled!
I also had to get me a really looong torx bit, after finally getting mine off, and not wanting to mess around when putting it back together. I got mine form my Matco guy, but I'm sure there are other places, as has been mentioned.
And yes, pay careful attention to the bolt lengths, and where which one came from. I have the factory service manual, so that helps.
I took mine apart to install new infectors, but got caught up in that "while yer here" syndrom, and went ahead and took the entire intake off, and cleaned everything up.
I'd recommend you consider replacing the ful pressure regulator while you're in that far...now would be the time, and chances are, it prolly needs replacing anyway.

While in there check the EGR valve.  You can also re-torque the intake manifold.  When I had my runners off I was able to remove any intake manifold bolts that were oozing oil and re-seal them.
