Found what I think may be my vacuum link...see my old thread here:

Old Thread Of Vacuum Leak

I was following my spark plug wires, thinking maybe one of them was arcing, or burnt because of headers and found this hard plastic vacuum hose underneath the water pump laying nicely on the cross-member with the end on the passenger side still partly connected.

Pics:

Those boards its laying on are 6" wide to give you an idea of size.

As soon as I touched the vacuum line, it disconnected from whatever it was attached to (next to engine block passenger side). Also sounded like something fell off of it (I heard a little "click-clunk") after barely touching it.
I didnt want to remove it at first because I wanted to know what it connected to...I had no choice as it fell off on its own.

The shape is exactly as I removed it...seems it has deliberate bends for being in a specific place.

I suspect it may go to the Opti...but...I didnt think the Opti had a vacuum line going to it, except for removing moisture, if thats the case, seems it would be full time vacuum and NOT a leak per se'.

Is it for a timing advance of some sort?...do Opti. have vacuum advancing timing?

Seems simple, but due to several fusions in my back I can only bend so much, and I looked everywhere I physically could from on top and underneath to see where it attached.

Anybody know that could possibly post pics would be helpful, or if somebody has the exact info in the FSM would help too...maybe a chapter and/or page to reference the locations and identity of this plastic hose.

I dont think its A/C; as the problem listed in my old thread has been solved (was just a slow opening duct door).

Thanks,
Jim

The later Optis did have vacuum running thru them to help keep the moisture to a minimum. It wouldn't be full engine vacuum(there is a restrictor/orifice), but a break in a line like that would cause a problem with the mass air/baro readings, since it's not being metered or measured. Can't say for sure that's where that particular line goes to, tho... I might have vac diagrams on my shop puter I can check tomorrow, if no-one else has anything...

No vac advance on the Opti systems...that's all controlled by ones and zeros in the PCM.

TTT...since we have new members I thought some may recognize this line.

Anybody that has recently rebuilt their LT1 would know, or those people that are familiar with LT engines.

Thanks!

Jim

BTT---anybody that just rebuilt a 95 or 96 LT1 might recall exactly what this is for.

It was laying dead center on the cross-member right below the harmonic-balancer/hub.

Jim, do you have the vacuum diagrams for your car, including emissions hose routing? I can pull those up for you tomorrow if you don't have them...

I have both FSM's...the problem is; so far all I can find is a section about removing parts and the V.hoses at that part...meaning; its not total info.

If you dont mind, get me those diagrams, a complete picture is exactly what I need. Hopefully; the diagram will list what is plastic and what is rubber.

Thanks Joel!!!!

Well...not really...The diagram shows everything as far as vacuum lines, but it doesn't give any indication of what type of material any particular section is.
I'll need to scan it in, and I'll e-mail it to ya(gimmie a few minutes...). It may help, it may not, but it's ALL Mitchell or AllData has. I'll dig around some more and see if I can locate more info/diagrams.
