My 1987 coupe didn't have its frisbee.  I noticed a really goofy looking "pulley" on my 1988 and didn't think too much about it.  I knew that when I replaced the water pump on the '87 it didn't have a frisbee.  I saw a video on YouTube today that followed as the host removed his frisbee.  Today was the first time I'd seen a discussion about this.  I think I'm going to try this next...

Ok, I'm not totally familiar with early C4s.  So please enlighten those of us who are scratching our noggins at the moment - just what the heck is the frisbee...???

It's a really unsophisticated looking plate bolted to one of the pulleys -- I think water pump.  It acted as a damper, but apparently it didn't do a good job and it's not hurting the cars if they're removed, from what the YouTube video stated.  I am going to look into it a bit more.  Kind of like my Eco-Boost Mustang -- I hear that with its R1234yf refrigerant, Ford folks are a bit nervous about under hood heat and want to remove every third row of my moveable grille louvers.  I am staying away from them while I decide if it's worth it to allow them to do that...

Can you post a picture of this "frisbee" thing of which you speak?

It is a damper of sorts. It is there to dampen the "jerk" felt when the A/;C compressor(Denso) kicks in. Only used for a few years...'88-'91 or so, I think.  Removing it will NOT give you more horsepower, but it will drive you nuts when you run the A/C....
