Im going to replace my stock LT4 cam with either a "Hotcam" or something aftermarket. Does anyone know if you must remove the engine to do this? If so remove engine and trans at the same time? Or lower the engine as to be able to remove the Balance?
Also if someone knows of a cam lumpy like or lumpier that will make more power than the Hotcam id like to know what it is!
Thanks, Ken

I put a hot cam in with the motor in the car but you have to
pull the rad and undo the mounts to lift the front of the motor to get the damper off. The high cross member is a pain and always in the way. Also, undo right side rack clamp to push it forward to get clearance. Takes some patience to get the damper puller in place and pull the damper hub. You also need to be able to hold the motor from turning when you're trying to remove or torque the damper bolts. With the rad and condenser out, the cam will come out/ go in. I also put the high performance chain in, new Comp Cams high rev hydraulic rollers and MSD Opti. The rest was straight forward. I use Innovate wideband O2s and Accel 26# injectors to start with and not having problems getting enough fuel in but there does seem to be issues right to left due to restrictions in the cross-over tube between the rails (getting another pair welded with independent connections). I put new aluminum rad in while it was all apart because the GM one is pretty thin and run a 180 t'stat.

Idles fine, although the MAP comes up quite a bit and the EGR points have to be reset or it will be on all the time and lean it out when you don't want it. It makes more power for sure but takes a fair but of tuning to correct the tables and MAF and our OBDII is not like the LS ECM. I have a similar Comp Cams profile for the next motor.

Mine is an automatic, all of which came with LT-1's and 24# injectors, LT-4's with 26# and side by side Accels are much better built injectors although interestingly, they are actually 25.6#/hr.
And a built automatic with the right converter will blow the doors off sticks all day long (real street)....but keep exercising your leg!

F.Y.I. LT4s do not have EGRs The stock cam's overlap between the intake & exhaust allows the engine to meet emissions without one.
