Hello everyone,

I was driving my car the other day and 5 minutes into the drive the Car acted if it were running on 4 cylinders all of a sudden. No back fire, or miss. Just loss of power, it ran but it sounded like the exhaust was plugged up. Could this be the result of the Opti Spark taking a dump? I own a 1985 C4

Thanks for any help,

Frederick C.

Unless you have swap out motors your L98 doesn't have an opti spark.
Sounds like your cat may be plugged.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking that when someone suggested that, and I was like I have a distributor by the Plenum...I'll check that out, thanks again!

I agree with CaledoniaBrian. You might have a slightly clogged catalytic converter. Be grateful that you don't have an LT1 like I do. I just had my Opti-Spark distributor replaced on my 1993 Base model. Along with a new water pump it cost me well over $1900 in parts and labor.

Well fellow C4 er. Have a 93' LT1 , I'm not a pro. By any stretch of imagination. Mine was leaking oil at back left corner of intake manifold (commen) .did a little research ( you-tube) and took it on over last winter , gasket kit cost $. 39.00 and after removal of throttle body, air intake, water pump, drain cooling system opti-spark and damping puller . The last opsticle was the oil pan , had the car up on jack-stands, about 20 inches , tires where about 8 inches off ground , was able to drop oil pan start replacing oil pan gasket and the rest was reversal of tear down steps , worked out well ! Have sum faith in yourself bro you can do it , if it ever happens again , total job was about $50 bucks good luck
