Vette(s): 1992 Red coupe with saddle interior. It has a 6 speed manual transmission, which was an absolute requirement when I was looking for the car. It is also still running on its original Goodyear tires.
I have a stock 92 couple with a 6 speed.  The car has 13K miles.  I am looking to do a few performance upgrades on it.  Can anyone recommend a good performance chip and let me know whether or not putting a chip in alone is a good idea.  I am on a very tight budget.  If I change the chip, are there other things I need to be doing to make it worthwhile?

You can pick up a street chip online sites like corvette america, ekler's corvette, and corvette central for less than one fifty. which will do everything you need. then later on work on intake to get air in maybe a K&N filter so on and so forth.

Sorry for the very late response to your reply.  Thanks for the info.  I will definitely take a look at some of the resources you recommended.

performance chips are readily available. some companies will even program the chips to what you want. if you buy one already done there are some other mods you would have to possibly make to match it. i got one for my 90 and it was programmed for a 160 degree stat where mine was a 195. as soon as the car went over 160 the fans were on constantly. for me the chip really didnt change that much to make me want to do all the other mods. put original back in. of course this is my opinion .

the stage II chip that Eklre's offers is only 140 and if you ust the other upgragdes they suggest you can get 20 to 30 more hoursy's and more tourque very cheap considering.and they offer one for the 84 crossfire injected vette plus for the hoiday you may still get 10or20 precent off right now. it was worth doing in my 85 vette makes bigg diference.

Don't throw your money away on some chip. Spend your money on long tube headers and a true 2.5" dual exhaust. Toss that 3rd cat in the garbage. Buy magnaflow cats and whatever mufflers you like depending on sound. Hi flow of course. You will have instant results.

Where are you guys seeing chips at that price?  The only chips I see (at least for mine) at Ecklers and Mid America are closer to $400, like this one:  http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corvette-power-programmer-iii-hypertech-lt1-or-lt4-1996.html
