Driving back to the shop I work in coming from N.A.P.A looked in review and thought huh white smoke. hum maybe valve guide seals bad. I can fix that easy. got halfway smoke got worse and I noticed oil pressure gauge fluctuateing.so pulled over popped the hood.oil everywhere on the drver side of the engine.so thought oil filter seal blew or lube guy didn't tighten it enough. easy fix new filter. Added a quart of oil and continued to shop when I pulled into shop pulled around back popped the hood and crapped my pant's. puddle of oil the size of lake Michigan.looks like oil spraying oil out the back of the engine. to much mess to tell exactly where the leak is. will go into work tommorow clean it all up add oil and see if I can find the leak. If anyone has seen this or heard of it. any ideas would be awsome. My 85 is my only ride daily driver so I'm walkng right now. and if anyone wants to call Chip Foose and see if he will restore my DREAM car. Thank you ladies and gentlemen.

Hope it's not serious....
Driver side oil, eh? Well, you've already mentioned oil filter, so let's see, it could be the oil pressure sending unit, right above the oil filter, and another one next to the distributor(and a pita to get to), and, if your '85 has the HD cooling system, you'll also have the engine oil cooler, and the adapter for same that the oil filter screws onto.
Those are the main oil leakers, so unless you have a big hole in the side of the block, your leak is prolly coming from one of those items. All are fairly easy fixes, except the oil pressure sender next to the distributor....that one will have you saying words you never thought you would say....
Could also just be a valve cover leaking, but those usually don't leak that much...unless you forget, and leave one off altogether...

it sounds like the oil sending unit to me. is yours near the rear of engine ? i had one blow out on my harley before not fun. i had oil everywhere.
got to the bottom of it gent's. oil pressure switch leaking oil very fast rightout the top. took me five minute's to change and four hours to clean everything up. oh and the switch only cost me $1.35 plus tax. amazing how such a cheap part can cause such a problem.

great to hear you got it fixed. 1.35 sounds cheap. i used synthetic oil and i noticed an slight oil leak. went back to conventional oil and it stopped. after a bit it started leaking again and finally found the leak. it would seep out of the plug connection. drove me crazy trying to find the leak.
