Vette(s): 1989 Convert. It's HERE ! ! ! This is my first 'Vette. Most likely my last toy as I am 71 years old.
Wink  Hey guys & Girls, what are your thoughts on a good, relatevly cheap, exhaust system that does not resonate ?  I know that the words Corvette, cheap, parts, are hard to use in the same sentance. LOL I wounder if that might be one reason that my car, '89 Convert. was so reasonable in price with so few miles on it - $8k & 50,150 miles.  The resonance is hard to live with.
   Thanks

I think you'll find that this area is pretty much subjective...seems like everyone has different tastes, as far as exhaust music is concerned. Check out some of the other threads in the exhaust forum...there's no one system that it "best" for everyone. Some like it hot, some don't!

Since you're getting resonance it sounds like you already have some sort of after market exhaust system.  The stock exhaust is relatively quiet.  One of the cheapest ways to go is to eliminate the mufflers altogether.  There are some vendors that sell eliminator systems but your best bet is to have a good exhaust shop cut off your mufflers, weld in some pipe and weld the muffler tips back on.

If you can hold off until the warm weather I would suggest you go to a few Corvette shows.  Get there early and listen to the various cars as they come in.  When you hear one you like ask the owner what he's got.

I got a rear Y pipe with a crossover tube and that really seemed to help.  I also puy on KBD mufflers at the same time, so that might have helped.

I have a Corsa exhaust system, and it does not resonate at cruising speed, one of the reasons I chose that brand.  My car is an LT1, so I can't really speak for how it will work out on an L98.  Also, Corsa exhausts sound different than other brands, more refined, I think.

$1000, not so cheap.

Does any have or know of someone that has Borla "stingers" on their C-4? I've only heard them on C-5's and they sound awesome when you "get into it".

I would like to buy an aftermarket exhaust system for my 93 LT1. Does anyone know if I can hear the sound on an internet site of the various manufactures to help decide? Borla, Magnaflow,Corsa, Billy Boat? I know that I should probably go to a show this summer and ask C4 LT1 owners what they have and to start it up and let me hear, but maybe there is an easier way. The shows that I have been to are usually busy in their installation alleys doing C5's and C6's.

I would like a deep fairly powerful sound, as well as adding a tiny bit of horsepower. Who has already done the research and what do you like?

Tommy
