Dammit...
So..there I wuz this mernin, mindin my own dadgum bidness on the way to werk....and the trans on my werk Cad takes a dump. Luckily, it wuz close enough to the shop to limp it there. I'm pretty bizzy at the shop, so it's gunna hafta wait a few days before I can get it out and fixed. I figure, heck, I gots the Goldwing, and the '85 Vette I can use iffin I needs to. So, I get Mama to come pick me up this evenin, and I buys a new battery for the Vette. Since we rarely ever drive either of them, the battery on the '85 takes a hit from being outside, and not started regularly. So I git home, swap the battery in, hit the key, expecting it to fire right up like it always does, but NOOOOOOO... just cranks & cranks, but no starty.
I noticed I dint hear the fuel pump run when I hit the key, so I checks for fuel pressure....nothing...not even a little spit.
Apparently, the fuel pump has stuck, and won't work. Great. This car has always fired up instantly before, even after siting for a while. I guess I pushed my luck a little too far this time. I think the last time I started it was last summer. I started it and let it run until the fans cycled a couple of times, and the shut it down, and put the cover back on it. I did put some fuel stabilizer in it, way back when, but the fuel don't look very good.
Looks like I'm gunna be ridin the Goldwing tomorrow, and changing the fuel pump on the '85 tomorrow evening.
At least now I'll be able to install the fuel gauge sending unit I got from Dave a hunnert years ago, but just never had the time(or motivation) to change!!LOL

Well....I'm happy you got a little snicker out of it..... Angry

LOL LOL LOL LOL

Kinda pizzed me off, even tho I know it's my own dang fault. I'm gettting a new pump today, and I'll install it this evenin when I git home. I'll prolly hafta go get some real gasoline for it, too, since what's in the tank now prolly wouldn't burn if you stuck a torch to it.
What really sucks is I got the 2 Vettes, 2 Cad-racks, 2 motorcycles, and a Suburban....and I'm down to drivin ONE vehicle! I ain't about to go thru the hassle of getting the '74 out of the garage, and I cain't afford the fuel for the Burban to drive back/forth to werk every day. Too cold this mernin to ride the 'Wing, so I drove Mama's Cad. I wonder if she's even noticed that she's stuck at home yet.....Embarrassed

Since I drive the "Company" vehicle every day all I have is the vette, the wifes Mustang, one Harley and two Yamahas (That are for sale), since I cant drive the "Work" car when I am off, if the wife is at work it's vette or bike. if it's raining, snowing, or otherwise wet weather I wont drive either and I hope there is something good on TV........ So I fully understand "Stranded".....

Well....I got a new pump, and tore into it this evening. For anyone who doesn't unnerstand the issues with letting one sit for too long without driving, let this be a lesson....Angry

I took the pump off, and jumpered it...nuthin but a hum...and then all the smoke came out. I'm gunna clean all this crap off the sender, and then suction the funk outta the bottom of the tank, and put the new pump in tomorrow. That should get this rag back on line so I can drive it.....

Part of this problem is from not driving, and being able to put fresh fuel in it regularly. But....a lot of this problem is the dang alcohol in the friggin fuel these days, as it attracts moisture.

Original pump?  Now you need a nice long drive to show her some love.

I replaced the original pump several years ago...in 2000, I think. I done told Mama we're/she's gunna hafta start driving this turd at least onced a month....dam shame it just sits outside under a cover....rotting away, because she don't wanna put no miles on it. I told here miles don't matter on a C4, especially this one. I bought it for her to drive. Angry
One stationary Corvette is enough. The '74 sits in the garage, under a cover....the '85 needs to be driven, since it's never gunna be a show car anymore, nor will it ever be a collector car worth anything to anyone except us. It costs less to keep it running, that it does to GET it running after sittin like that. It hasn't been driven since '06....

You'll remember when I lost my fuel pump to heat from an empty tank. Going to an external Aeromotive doesn't seem too expensive until you add the filters and the fittings and the hoses and pretty soon you're pushing $1000 not including the fuel pump controller! At least I won't have your rusty mess but Aeromotive says their pumps aren't alcohol proof so we'll see over time.

I'm working on getting rid of that cheap cork float/level sender as we speak particularly since I've stuffed the tank with Fuel Cell foam. Livorsi marine sell solid state level senders and the only ones I've found that match GM gauge OE resistance (90-0 ohms). My tank measures 13" so I've ordered their 12" unit although they have longer ones which they will cut and calibrate as needed. I'll post some pics when I get there but you might look them up at http://www.livorsi.com/catalog/senders_auto.htm or look them up at the Miami boat show in a couple of weeks.

  "Eeets ALIVE.....ALIVE!!!!" Tongue

It lives to fight another day! Got the tank sucked out, new pump installed, fresh fuel in it, and the turd fired right up. Clap  Moved the other cars around so the '85 would be more accessible, rinsed most of the dirt off of it, and then Mama & I drove it to dinner. It was too late in the day to take it for inspection, so that will happen next weekend, I guess.
Dang new Kumhos have flat spotted big time....sure hope they round out some with some driving. I pumped a little more air in them than I normally run. On the way back from dinner, they did seem to not bounce as much, so fingers crossed!
I had to fix a bad ground on the pass side front turn sig, put new plates on it, and a few other minor tinkerings, but overall, it runs as good as ever, and pulled 25mpg on the drive.
It won't be sitting idle anymore....just cost too dang much to bring it back to life.....Angry

Vette(s): 1992 coupe. Custom.
I use to have all those problems when I had 5 cars ans 2 bikes.
Only have two cars and no bikes, now. The vette, gets used every day and the many door barge, gets little use.
The vette, gives me no trouble.
Cars are like sex. If you don't use it often, it will not resopnd when you need it. :)
