We've only had the 89 coupe home a few days, and today was my first
chance to really play around with it. I tried taking the top off, it
wouldn't budge! I loosened the 4 bolts shown in the owners manual, the 2
in rear even came completely out, and nothing. I pulled as hard as I
could and the car was rocking, but that sucker wouldn't move AT ALL. The
guy I bought it from had it out and showed me how to put it back on, so
I know it aint glued on, but what am I missing???
Second, the right rear speaker hisses and pops. I don't listen to the radio a lot and want to keep it simple and original by just replacing them with the same type or having these rebuilt, but how the hell do I remove it without messing it up? I found the page at http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalCorvetteRspk.htm but the page on removing rear speakers in a coupe doesn't show ANYTHING!
Any help will be appreciated! Thanks

my 90 was in an accident and had the whole car repainted. did the trim around the top and after that if i didn't remove the top at least every other day it would seal itself in. i had to take a flat piece of plastic that wouldn't cut the gasket and slide it between the top and gasket to get it apart. as a matter of fact saturday i pulled the gasket out of the track and had to reglue it in and then we repainted the edge with a different type of paint.
as far as the speakers go take off the grill and the "speaker box" should come out in one piece.

If you have the Bose stereo system, you will discover the amplifiers go bad over time. Each speaker has it's own amp and are located in the speaker housing. I have replaced 2 of the amps on my '89. The 1st time I got the amp from Ecklers and it worked perfect. I bought the 2nd amp from the Partsladi and it wasn't compatible. The amps are expensive, usually over $100 each and very often are not in stock with any of the popular suppliers (Corvette Central, Ecklers, Mid America, etc). I've come across numerous articles saying once 1 amp goes bad, to expect the other amps to do the same in the near future, which is what I experienced. Right now, I have 1 good amp/speaker and the other 3 hiss and pop. I've decided to replace the whole system but haven't gotten around to it yet. IMO opinion, I recommend doing some research to determine which is the right route for you.

I definitely want to keep the stock look, besides it gives me an excuse to drag out 20 year old mix tapes!
I've been checking online and in catalogs, I just couldn't decide who to order from, but I've been leaning towards Ecklers, either just for new amps or the rebuild service. I'm probably going to replace both rears at the same time to keep everything in sync and to avoid hanging all over the rear hatch again in a year or so when the left goes out too.
And anyway, most of the time I'm just going to enjoy listening to that L98 symphony
