I have found a set of 2005 5 spoke wheels I want to purchase. The rears wheels are 19.5 and the fronts are 18.5, I know I need spacers for them to fit. My questions is as follows: the tire shop I want to purchase tires from is telling me that spacers are not a good idea on a vette and that at speeds over 60 miles per hour you will get ratteleing. Is this true or is he trying to convience me to buy wheels from him. what are your thoughts and experiences, as I really like the wheels and do not want to purchase something that is going to cause problems down the line. Please help...a "ROOKIE" vette owner....
I've never had problems with spacers, the correct spacers, tightened correctly.
I'm also not going to put 05 rims on an 85.
I had a 1987 Corvette that I put 17 inch wheels on (stock were 16 inch) and used the spacers I got from Corvette Central. The new wheels measured front 17 X 8.5, rear 17 X 9.5. Even at 130 mph I never had an issue. I currently have a 1995 Corvette that I just purchased a set of 4 1998 Corvette 5 spoke wheels with the same width diameter, front 17 X 8.5, rear 18 X 9.5 and if I need to I will use spacers on it as well. The '95 Vette already has 17 inch wheels with the 17 X 8.5 & 17 X 9.5 wheel width so I don't actually anticipate having to use spacers. I also recall that Auto Zone sells similar spacers, at least back around 2011 they did. The red Vette is my '87, yellow is my '95.
Using quality spacers you should have no problems. Lots of people put C5 wheels on their Corvettes. On the newer ones, spacers aren't required. On early ones like yours, spacers are required, but they're not massive thickness. I used to have a document that identified the spacers you'd need for your application, but can't find it right now.
The tire dealer may be describing problems customers have had with wrong size spacers or low quality spacers. He may also be thinking of people who used wrong sized wheels (some BMW wheels will ALMOST fit because the Corvette's 4.75 inches is close to the BMW's 120mm bolt circle). Most people recommend against that.
Get the right spacers from a reputable source and you'll be fine. (I hope you're looking at the 'thin-spoke' C5 wheels. They look great on C4s.. The 'wagon wheels' are OK, but only in chrome.

Thank you all for the wonderful feedback, I am going to discuss with my mechanic and to from there. Finding it difficult to find rims for the car. I seen someone had stated (on another post) that they did not want to purchase anything just because they were the only one's they could find that would fit.
Why not....I have seen them on 85's I think they look nice. But I would be interested in why you wouldn't put 05's on a 85?

If you're referring to me; it's because I don't like the way they look, on a C4 or C5.
"RESPECT"
In reading your response I have question(s) for you since I haven't tried to put the C5 wheels on yet, if I read it correctly you say that a late model C4 will fit C5 wheels without spacers? Mine is a 1995 C4 and I want to put these wheels on in the spring. Will these wheels fit my '95 Vette? Also, is this what you refer to a "wagon wheels?" Thank you.

Yes...those are wagon wheels...were on 97 to 99 vettes.
So, you are saying YES they will fit without spacer's on my "95 Vette?
Wagon Wheels, oh well, I like them better than the Saw Blades I have now.
And, I got all 4 for only $75. with the center caps, can't beat that.
Thanks.

No idea if they fit or not.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Sorry I didn't have more info....but I do believe offset is different, but lug pattern is same.
Hopefully somebody with factual info will post.
