Vette(s): Red 1986 Corvette convertible
Hi All,
I've purchased my 1986 convertible Vette 4 years ago. Ever since then I've had to unlock drivers door from passenger side so the alarm wouldn't sound. Then enter through drivers door. Is there any way trick to opening the drivers door without the alarm sounding? I didn't receive a key fob when I purchased car. Would appreciate any help.
Thanks

My first guess would be a bad switch on your drivers door lock. It could also be a bad connection or wire between that door lock switch and your security module, which is located up under the dash on the passenger side.
To keep the alarm from activating, you can lock the doors by using the slide levers, rather than with the push-button locks.
I don't think the '86 came with a keyless remote entry system. A FSM (Factory Shop Manual) will help you find this problem.

I have to agree with the problem being in the door lock switch. My '85 has the same problem, but on the passenger side. If I turn it to Lock first then unlock a couple of times, it will open without the alarm going off. I'm just too dang lazy to dig into the door to fix it....

This way works for me....I can enter through drivers door without setting off alarm by using slide lock.
I want to thank you for your help.
I agree with Hot Rod Roy! I've got an '86 coupe also, with the identical problem. Hope to pop open door in the next little while to replace the outer door window rubber strip, and I'll check out the wiring then. Let you all know what happened.
