I belong to a large "generic" car club and there are only a few Corvette owners in it. I hear several comments from other members to the effect that "That is a nice looking Corvette", referring to my '86 Coupe. I know that other Corvette owners sometimes put down C4's, but then they don't own one either.
The electronics can sometimes be tricky to work on but a shop manual and my file of C4 magazine clippings over the years have served me well.

There sure is a lot of negativity about he lack of HP in the C4 but it was close to top dog when they were built. It's the torque that is what's felt though. So, I can't brag about HP. Who cares?
Buying my 1990 last year was the ONLY way I was getting in a Corvette of any kind. It was cheap, insurance is cheap, gets great gas mileage and is fun to boot.
I love my C4 and unless I hit the lotto it will be the only one I own. If I hit the lotto I'd like to add a 1990 ZR1 to the garage.
Love my Vette!!!!!

I love my C4 who cares what the haters hate
Bought "The Toy" (my '70 convertible) as a high school graduation present to myself (30 years late) and have enjoyed the heck out of it. My wife and I were never really fans of the C4s until we walked up to a bright red coupe at a Vette show. Had to admit it was a darn sexy lookin' ride, probably had something to do with the ZR-1 emblem on the rear bumper. Told her we'd never own one because we wouldn't be able to afford it. As luck would have it a couple of years later she saw one listed in the classified section of the Saturday morning paper. We went and looked at it, drove it, and ended up buying it. "The Beast" has been our vacation road trip car and it has been an absolute BLAST...!!!

Vette(s): 1991 L98 Base Convertible w/removable hardtop.4 speed auto. White with red leather. 63,000 miles, all original except has after market radio.
I have a 91 vert with removable hardtop, 64,000 original miles. The BEST Handling car I have ever driven. 22 years old and drives like a dream. The negative statements I have heard are from non c4 owners. But research was was being said when the c4's first came out....all VERY POSITIVE. I have also owned a base 73 coupe. You want to talk about no power or handling. I could never take turns in the 73 at the speeds I can in my 91. The bottom line is drive what you can afford and enjoy.
Save the Wave!!!

I'm new on the forum as of today, and saw this post. I never realized that there was such a stigma with the C4s until I started reading about it on forums. My husband owned a couple of C3s before I ever met him, and back before C4s were even made. Recently, he decided he wanted to own another Corvette, since it's been a while. I've never owned one. He had been casually looking at C5s, but then began to notice C4 ads. He said he'd never seriously considered one until he started really looking at some of the ads. Good looking cars at a good price. We bought a 95 and love it. The torque is great and it's got plenty of horsepower for us. I'm happy we decided to go with a C4, and it's great that there are Internet forums devoted to them!

1985 and 1995 coupes:

When I found mine on craigslist last year my wife says "It's not one of those long hood ones is it?" She only likes the C1 and 2s.
I said yes it is. She hasn't even sat in it yet. One the 20th it will be one year. She can be hard that way. Ha Ha.

I Bought my 1988 C4 a lil under a year ago , for 1500 Bucks from a elder gentleman who bought it for his son ..who then side swiped it , He took the car back & decided to sell it ( Great for me ) I own a Chevelle ( love of my life ) had Fox body & Classic mustangs , El Camino ....ETC My C4 is now the Sunshine of my life. I get great feedback from Newer Corvette owners about mine while I'm drooling over theirs , Not to mention the wave from fellow owners going up & down Highway 1 . The C4 for Spanked Ferrari of that era .... Only another GM made car knocked the socks of the C4 ( The Buick Grand National ) That's only in the quarter mile . I'll never care what people say about the C4 , I love mine & I love all of yours ....Happy Motoring Fellow Owners

The amazing thing about the Corvette is how attached the owners can be about their era of car. I am a C4 Corvette guy. Started with a 1984 and (4) C4's later I now have a 1996 LT4 coupe. I did stray awhile back, before I bought this 1996, and drove a few C5's thinking I should update a bit but my affection is for the C4 body, hood design, suspension, interior, overall look and stance.. Sure the horsepower race is debated non-stop, but what people miss is that when the 84 came out is was quite a machine, matching what was offered at the time 0-60. Talking with C6 guys and their Z06's, ZR1's makes 330 hp sound like current 4-door sedan or SUV numbers....but in 1996 it was a hot-rod. I was at a car show last Saturday and a guy had a C6 with a twin turbo monster engine making upwards of 1000 hp, his complaint was how carefully he had to push the go pedal or else the tires went up in smoke...what a dilema...We would not be Corvette owners if performance didn't matter...there were a few lean years in the late 70's early 80's, but Corvette was the American car that set the mark for "sports car" and all that stands for. I think the 84-96 Corvette offers the most performance for the money than any other car. You can take a few thousand an buy a tired Camry or Taurus or buy a C4. Naturally I wish the values were up on these cars and don't understand why a rough C3 will bring more money than a C4 even though there is no comparison between driving the two, but the market is hard to understand.... When the C4 came out it made quite a splash in the media not unlike the new C7 has for this era. It still means alot to me everytime I walk out in the garage and see my new(old) torch red beauty. Each one of my C4's made an impression on me, I can't imagine now not having one to drive.
