Hi I drove a c5 with a short shifter and was really impressed.  I have the 6sp in my 96 CE and the throws are really long compared to the short shifter.  Does anyone have any experience with changing the stock shifter to a short shifter?  Is it a difficult process?
Thanks for the input.

Can't say that I have ever removed a stock shifter for that reason before....it's usually only been when removing the trans. I would think that you could remove the shifter cover in the console, and prolly part of the console, and get to the 4 bolts that hold the shifter to the trans. If not, you can get to the bolts from underneath, tho it is a tight fit unless you remove the "C" shaped torque bar from the trans to the diff. If you do that, you'll need a jack under the trans to keep the engine/trans from tilting back far enough to damage the firewall.
Maybe someone else here can chime in on changing shifters on the late C4s....Approve

Smile
That's the smile on my face.  I just installed a Hurst Short-shifter that I purchased on e-bay.  It shortens the throw
by 30% and is really more precise in every gear.  It's really a great addition to my 96 CE LT-4.

It's not as short as my friend's C-5 BUT it's a lot better over the stock throw.  I even kept the original shift knob so
it still looks stock.  It's just a little "shorter"

So, when you went to the Hurst Shifter...did it override the 1st to 4th feature? I love my LT 4 but the 1st to 4th feature bugs me when I'm in traffic. Is there any other methods to override this feature? When I'm thinking about it, I just pull away from a dead stop in 2nd...but I'd love another option.

MidAmerica sells the "skip shift" 1996 CAGS 6-speed bypass harness (603-701) for $17.99.
Mine already had the by-pass installed before I changed to the short shifter.  The 1st-4th "lights" up but you just
shift from 1st-2nd without any problems.  I would assume the "short shifter" alone would not by pass the system
since it is actually just a shortened shifter unit and doesn't have any effect on the computer which forces the
1st-4th program. so you would need to by the bypass harness.
