i hurt my kne at work in the beginning of november. by  the time i finished going to the doctor for workmans comp, the xrays, the mri, i needed to get my knee operated on. it was done on  jan. 5th. because my knee was annoying me, i hadn't driven my 90 since the beginning of december.

i kept telling myself to start it up and kept putting it off (forgetting to do it). anyway wer had the big snow at christmas which the car was buried in. cleaned a bunch of the snow off and about a week later, i finally decided to see if it would start. i have a remote start and pressed the button and to my surprize it started right up.

i got my knee operated on and started therapy last week. even though it is freezing cold the roads are dry and the sun is out. sunday morning i had to make a run to the store and figured i'd take the vette to give it a run plus i missed driving it. pick up the remote and nothing but clicks. the battery was dead.

amazing that it would start after a month of not being used and after about 2 1/2 weeks, the battery died and wouldn't start. charged the battery up and started fine and used the car today. just goes to show that you can never figure somethings out.Wits End

How long did ya let it run last time ya started it, tho? The alternators on these cars don't seem to put out a huge charge at first, and they really don't like charging half dead batteries! And...while you may see 13-14 volt charge at idle, it's not really charging the batt very well at idle.
Whenever I start the '85, I'll charge the batt for 30 minutes or so first, then I'll fire it off and let it run until the fan(s) cycle a couple of times.
Then again...I don't drive either of them anyway! The '74 stays in the garage with a batt tender on it year round. The poor ol '85 sits outside with the batt disconnected.
Once the weather gets a little toastier, and yer knee gets a little less sore, check the cables at the batt....maybe even take them loose and clean both sides. Of course, if yer driving it every day, you prolly won't have that problem anyway...

Hope yer knee heals quickly!

it ran for at least 20 minutes. i was always told that the battery will charged faster with the altenator than a charger. thing is when it started there was no sign of a weak battery. it was nice and crisp which is one of the things that surprized me.  thinking about it now, i guess the snow acted like insulation and kept the cold out. has been cold as heck here the last week. now that i used it yesterday it starts up great.

hey, I had the same exact eposide last weekend except I keep mine in a heated garage and I fire it up about every 2 weeks. I needed to work on my daughters truck and pulled the vette out which started right up. Left it outside overnight and the next day the battery was dead (temp was around 5 degrees, brrrr). I think it's time to get a trickle charger especially since the battery is fairly new.

Take care of that knee !

thanks for all the well wishes. ever since i got it started the other day, it has started fine. guess it was just getting back at me for not having a garage to put it in.Rolling On The Floor Laughing
