For some reason my '89 has no acc position on the keyswitch.  I assume the lock switch has been replaced, but I'm not digging through the column to rectify this.  My question is, is it safe to power up the ignition without the engine, so I can program aspects of my new stereo (bluetooth, display color, lots of stuff)  I don't want to let the magic smoke out of any 32 year old electronics just to save gasoline and engine heat.

She's just like my ex wife, "Take me to the gas station, take to the auto part store, buy me something, spend some (a lot) money on me!

I program cars and trucks all the time with key in run position.
