Vette(s): 1996 collectors edition lt4 convertible 10,000 miles, silver exterior, black interior. purchased 4/20/12
My C4 is a 1996 with the orginal tires 10,700 miles. The car sits on carpet. Are these safe to drive with? I was told not to take them off if I'm not putting a lot of miles on the car, but I show the car and drive to events. About a 100 miles every other month. 16 year old tires!!!

just watch for slight side-wall cracks...monitor your pressure....if you ever have the inclanation to have your vehicle top-flight judged from the NCRS original tires and wheels are an asset....if you have the $$ means maybe buy an aftermarket set of rim and tires for daily use ....just my opinion....also don't over-do the tire dressing products....they have been known to actualy accelerate the dry-rot ......

A member of my Corvette Club has an 82 model C-3 that he bought brand new. I wont bore you with the details but he has the original tires and rims also. he takes the originals off and stores them and puts a different set on the car for driving ti back and forth to the shows, where he then puts the originals back on for showing it. He has never lost a show yet.
Of course he is the original owner of an 82 collectors edition with only 17,000 miles and even has the orignal spark plugs in it.
So if I were you and had the orignals I would do the same. Replace them and the rims but keep them for shows and orinality.
