I grew up during the period that Route 66 was on TV. I always wanted to do a road trip similar to what they did and now is the time. The plan is to go to San Francisco as the most distant point and then down the Cali coast and then back to DFW.
Getting the 91 (89k miles) ready for the trip I have replaced the tires, serpentine belt, and just had oil change/lube done. Since I recently bought the car I have no idea on age of the coolant hoses so they will also be changed along with new anti-freeze.
A complete tune up was done during '13 including FIC injectors so I feel pretty secure in that area.
Any suggestions about other work that I may need to do would be greatly appreciated. I have made the drive across Az/NM and know that there are many places where there are only miles and miles of just miles and miles.
Thanks,
AJ

Check brakes all around.
Wiper blades & washer fluid.
Check spare for air....and jack/lug wrench.
As a precaution, I would recommend that you purchase a new ignition module, and ignition coil to have with you. Those things tend to fail at the most inopportune times, and sometimes without any warning. The coil and module do not take up very much room, so no worries about having the space. Also suggest a new fuel filter, just in case.

Brakes are new...the dude forgot the anit-rattle on the left front ;( Used the wipers a couple of times and they do seem to work.

Spare tire...in dog years it is probably dead considering it is 22+ years old. I have thought about looking for something to replace it with but not completely sure where to go on this.
I am going to get AAA just in case and I have a plug in for the phone.
Fuel filter is a very good idea. I had one clog on my 88 the day before I was to drive to SF on a contract. Ended up driving a Ranger...damn.
