last may FIC (fuel injection connection) became a supporting vendor. i contacted him about a set of injectors and he gave me a good deal on a set. as the 90 is almost done i emailed him thru his ebay store and mentioned i was a member here and his reply was that my injectors that i was to trade in were not worth anything and he wouldn't even discount the price.

what gives. did he have a problem here or something. don't see him on the list anymore.

Some of the infectors are not rebuild-able, or are not worth the trouble to rebuild. I bought new ones for my '85 a couple of years ago, and I thought the price was reasonable, at a little less than $300, if I remember correctly. Got them from Mid-Am, and they are the Accell brand...been working fine so far.
Don't know what might have happened to FIC....

thats where i got these from (accell). paid 349.00 for them. only thing is they are 24# instead of 22#. fic said the computer can adjust at idle ok for the difference but at driving speeds not as well. he also said it would run rich (which it does) and after sometime will burn out the catalitic converter which is new.  i was going to replace them with the 22#to save my self some gas and the converter. is it worth doing the change or should i just leave it?

It has been my expierence the FIC is not very truthful (sad to say).  I have the 24# in my 85 Z51 and with the high-flow runners (did them myself) and 52mm throttle body and the Granatelli adjustable MAF sensor ...they work just great. Of course, I have the Thermomaster Hypertech chip AND a 160 degree Hypertech thermostat.  Provides better fuel milage and LOTS more horsepower and torque that is readily noticeable.  The computer adjusted just fine to these small (?) upgrades and she runs like a raped ape!!

Vaughn, I agree, Jon does/did have a good rep.  But I assume Russ had a bad experience, it happens.  Any backstory Russ?

Sorry guys.....as I said...."in MY expeirience".......
NOT something to bandy about on an open forum.....nor would it be fair.....
everyone has to go with their own expeirience whether it be good or bad and not on someone else's as it may not be the same at any given time and situation.

As per the question of the 24# injectors and how they work IN MY CAR....my statement is one I will stand behind completely....but you have to realize that every other guys car may not be the same .  Generally speaking, though, the 24# injectors will, or should, be sufficent and will operate as well or better than the original 22#er's, especially if you do ANYTHING that increases the air flow into your combustion chambers !!  MY fuel milegage increased from 22-23 mpg with the 22# injectors and stock set up to 27-30 mpg with the 24# injectors with the modified setup I described and A LOT MORE torque and HP.....when I can get to a Dyno, I will let you know what the final increases are.

No problem Russ, you sir are indeed a gentleman.  BTW, they are some pretty impressive mpg numbers.

thanks for the kind words, jimmymack.

the "impressive numbers" as you call them are not all that "impressive".........LOLEmbarrassed......my 87 Convertible is bone stock except for an air foil in the throttle body and the Hypertec ThermoMaster chip and a 160 degree Hypertec thermostat ( I personally like to run my engines cool) and I get 25 mpg around town and up to 30 on the highway if I drive it gingerly (which isn't too often!!!Rolling On The Floor Laughing  The aluminum heads set up makes a difference in the 87 while the 85 has the cast iron heads and 10 HP less at production.  ANY engine runs better and performs better with COOL air and MORE of it.  If you increase the air intake into the combustion chamber and add a little more fuel , the compression at the point of ignition will all combine to burn more efficiently and create a better running, better performing engine.(assuming , of course, that you have the proper timing and spark plugs)...increasing fuel mileage and performance.  Of course, you can push a little too much and you start to go the other way as in the case of my 75 StingRay.....I built the motor up with a lot of goodies including aluminum/alloy roller rockers and solid lifters and a somewhat radical cam , blue-printed and balanced  heads with titanium/alloy valves and the rods and pistons balanced to within a dust speck of each other and the crank balanced and polished and a Melling hi-flow oil pump with a Moroso Pro oil pan, Edelbrock Performer intake and a Holly double-pumper carb and a whole lot more goodies that would take more than a page to cover.  Short story is that the motor put 418 WHP (at the wheels horse power on Dyno) with approx 450 Bhp (Base HP) and approx 460 pounds of tire shredding torque.  Needless to say I was estatic to get 15 mpg fuel milage around town with a built-up TH400 automatic transmission and beefed up 2:73 rear end. Would it be too much for you to believe that C5 and C6's (not Z06's) "fear" me???  Mustangs run and hide....Rolling On The Floor LaughingRolling On The Floor LaughingClap

The 85-91 L98 TPI engine is the perfect testament to the great minds at Chevrolet.  It was an engine before its time and remains a perfect engine to play with and get good horsepower and fuel milage without going to extremes and without spending beaucou bucks.  It remains one easy to work on by DIY'ers yet has the computerized mechanisms that compliment for better performance levels.

Okay, here I go getting carried away. I'm an old gearhead that doesn't know when to shut up!!LOL

i am glad you didn' shut up. this is what this site is all about. just from a little venting on my part a lot of info comes out of it. one thing ididn't mention was that i replaced the throttle body with a 52mm body. i may or may not go to the lower stat as i have the hypertech proformance prom.

just two things i would like an opinion on. does the air foil on the t/b make a lot of difference (as i had one on the old one and still do) and if i run it at 160 degrees, how much will it affect the heat as i use the car ( i did before it got hit) all the time and it gets prtty cold here in nj.

thanks for everyones input. as i said don't stop the ramblings as it probably saved me a lot of unnecessary money being spent and plus i learned a little more.Big smileThumbs Up
