I spent the last few weeks driving C5 Corvettes. I have owned (4) C4 Corvettes, taken a fast ride in a new C6 Z06, but have never been in a C5. I drove several in my quest to "trade-up" from my 1989 coupe. The experience was not what I expected. I thought the C5 was supposed to be such a drastic improvement from the C4, more horsepower, more comfort, more gadgets, more of everything. Maybe I am just set in my ways...I have always thought since I pushed my way through the crowd at my local Chevrolet dealer to see the all new 1984 Corvette that it was the most beautiful design ever. I have always been a Corvette Fan but in 1984 I was a C4 fan. I did almost feel like a traitor thinking about moving up a generation...sure the C5's are easier to get in and out of, they have more storage space behind the seats, the dash is modern with easy to read and use controls...but the driving experience just wasn't the same, this may sound silly but the C5 was "too" soft and cushy...just didn't feel like a Corvette. I like the fast reflexes of my C4 car, the C5 was a bit vague when you turned the wheel. The overall look of the car didn't energize me. The C4 looks more distinctive, more raw, after driving some C5's and the dealers looking at my very nice C4 and saying  "well the car is old, no value left, my buddy just bought a nice one on EBAY for 2500.00" I said well to be honest...I really like my old car better...no sale...

NO offense to anyone that has a C5, but I wouldn't have one if ya gave it to me. I just don't like them. Can't really put my finger on it, but they just don't look/feel/drive, or fit me right. Not that the body don't look ok, it does, but the whole package just don't do it for me.I like the C6 much better, and the new 2014 car looks great.
I'll stick with my "old" Stingray. If I wanna play, I can drive the '85(once I get it running again...).

Vette(s): 1991 L98 Base Convertible w/removable hardtop.4 speed auto. White with red leather. 63,000 miles, all original except has after market radio.

I get the bug also from time to time to move up. Each time I do and check out C-5's I love my C-4 (91 vert) even more. I would rather spend alittle now and then to keep in great shape than to move up, pay more for the car and still have to spend the upkeep. I had a club member tell me that there was a world of differance between a C-4 and C-5 as well as between C-5 and C-6. The newer models being better. I ask if he had ever driven a C-4 and he said no. Well I have driven all generations except C-1 and dollor for dollar the C-4 is best around. Just my thoughts. Tongue

Just a follow up on my original post...I did make a change...traded my 1989 for a 1996 LT4 Coupe. So if you are keeping score at home this is my C4 history so far...1984, 1993, 1994, 1989, and now a 1996.

I don't know why anyone would say that the C5 is not a car they would own. While the C4 in my opinion is the last of the real corvettes it however is surpassed by the C5.  Weight Distribution, Computer controlled braking, HP/TQ, Ride, Road Noise. All around it is a better Corvette.
