Vette(s): 1989 Convert. It's HERE ! ! ! This is my first 'Vette. Most likely my last toy as I am 71 years old.
Hi all, Has anyone tried or succeeded in tracking the history of their used 'Vette ? I have tried several sites that claim to have all the data but either want a fist full of money or actually cannot track anything. I have the CarFax for my car but it does not tell me who the past owners were. I would like to contact them and have them tell me, if they will, about the car while they had it...
Thanks.........

Vette(s): 1985 Coupe-L98/Auto,Bright Red/Carmine.
1974 Coupe-L48/4speed, Medium Red Metallic/Black Deluxe.
Your best bet is to request a title search from your local DMV(Department of Motor Vehicles). Some states may not do it, so you would need to inquire about your state.
I did a title search on my '74 many years ago, and put in the request here in Texas. What I got back was the complete title history from day one. I got copies of the titles, and titles transfers. (My '74 was originally sold in Indiana) So I had the original owner's name.
He moved to Texas in '79, with the car, and had the car title transferred to Texas.
Contact your DMV, or check your state's website for info on how to request a title search. It cost me $30, if I remember correctly.

Same suggestion, Dan. A title search is the best bet...

I tracked the original owner of my 84 thru the warranty booklet still in my car. I only had a name and address, so I wrote a letter, sent pics, and never expected to hear anything back. Much to my surprise, the original owner called me back about a week later!!! I got all sorts of cool stuff for my car...it was a special order so I got the original order form, window sticker, bill of sale, and even some pics! I know the second owner, from whom I purchased the car. Something else that worked for me is to pull the build sheet. I then contact the dealer who sold the car new, and had someof the original service records. I have everything on my car going back to before it was born in April 1984. Ordered in Houston, sold to 2nd owner, who then moved to Washington state, then Carlsbad, CA, then to Salem NH then finally to me in PA. I searched all of the state DMV sites, and it was a lot of fun gathering everything. The original owner of my car has become a friend, and I hope to drive my '84 back to TX one day....
Dan, start by ordering the build sheet from the NCM if you do not have it already. That will give you the name of the original selling dealer. Call them, and see if you can get anything.
