[QUOTE=DaveP85C4]The nicest car that you can afford to buy. Any C4 is going to be a compromise over what is your ideal C4. You'll have to pick the best compromise. You'll know it when you find it, if you look at enough of them.
Good Luck,
Dave

That's the best advice so far. I have a 94 and love it.

I had a 1990 cp and traded for a 1995 convertable. I was surprised at the improvements that have been made in that short period of time. There are early C4's amd late model C4's, 1990 is the change over year with both early and late model appointments.

The C4 is evolutionary from year to year. Each year has improvements over the previous. The 90 with the 'early' body and 'late' SIR interior is mostly cosmetics. There are several year-over-year comparisons that are notable. Aluminum heads and ABS in 86, the 6-speed in 89, the LT1 in 92, the LT4 in 96 are some.
But there is one year to year that in my opinion is the biggest leap in C4 evolution, and makes the two groups quite different. 87-down with 16" tires, and 88-up with 17" and the improved front brakes. I've owned cars in both groups, and the difference is quite remarkable. The later year improvements are generally improvements in build-quality rather than 'content'.

i have a 85 and its not a crossfire its a tpi and i love it but if you have bad knees you wont have fun getting in and out of it as a daily driver but i do think over all you would love driving a c4 and as in one other post here i would try to stay away from the crossfire my friend has one and all he does is say its like driving a family car with a corvette body
Thanks for the advice guys! I especially appreciate the advice on what not to get.
The wife just got a new job this week. maybe the new car isn't as far off as I thought... Who knows? Maybe even a C5?
I love my 1996 Collector's edition, it is a dream to drive, with the 6 speed your gas goes a long way, comfort was not left out, performance is great with the LT-4, all the advance features were added in for this last year model. I now wonder about how I would feel in a C-5 or C-6 model??..Terry
I have owned my 84 for 9 years now, and I absolutely love it and would not trade it for anything else. Yes, I will admit that the 84 does have its share of negatives, like less HP than all other C4's, a skinny steering wheel, and the crossfire can be difficult to tune, but it does have the pros like the availibility and price of engine parts (like coil, plug wires, distributor, etc), and the fact that it is unique (only C4 with the Crossfire, Z51 was tuned down for 85).
I specifically went out searching for the perfect 84 before I bought my car. I looked at 37 different 84's, until I found the perfect car. If you have the time and patience to synchronize the throttle bodies, then the 84 is a great car, especially the Z51 package car. Most people who don't know Corvettes look at the Cross Fire under my hood, and ask "what is that thing" which is a great conversation starter.
Just be careful, cause there is junk out there for ever year.
