Our 85 vette still has wheel vibrations like they still out of balance. ,I noticed weights are on inside edge. With the rim being wide the factory indicates to use stick on weights to be located in the middle of rim to correctly balance the rim. Has anyone had experience with issue? Thanks in advance. Byron

Static balance is the use of weights in one area...it is balancing the top vs. the bottom.
Dynamic balance is the use of weights in two areas...it is balancing the top vs. the bottom, and the left vs. the right.
You can also have a warped/bent rim or out-of-round tire that causes vibration.
Is your vibration at certain speeds only?....
Is your vibration noticeable at pretty much all speeds but really noticeable the faster you go?
Wheels don't have any marks on edges so I don't think the rims are bent. Mostly 50 and above is where I feel a little vibration in the steering wheel I had a 68 chevelle with chrome reversed rims and tires wore off in a wedge shape with the inner tread being bare and outer tread being good yet. With 9.5" wide rims I would think stick weights located at the center would be more precise way of gritting it done. Tomorrow I am having drive train completely checked out and will let you know. Just because you don't see damage does not mean there isn't, or its warped.
but...since you mention at speeds 50+ is the only time it vibrates, I am gonna say have the wheels balanced again...possibly a different place if your guy cant smooth out the ride with proper balance.
I had wheels balanced by competent dealer using stick on weights located inside center of the wheel. Vibration gone and ride is smooth. C 4. this forum is as good as it gets. Byron
I have the same problem with my 85, on the highway right when I hit 70 get a strong shake in the steering wheel. It if get up to 80 it decreases a bit, down below 70 and it goes away completely. I figured it was a balance issue as well, when you say competent dealer, I assume you mean wheel and tire dealer, not dealership?
Speed sensitivity is usually an indication of worn suspension components or improper Caster, not balance. It's called "Death Wobble". Check the entire front suspension especially the ball joints and tie-rod ends. Improper Caster can also cause this. Very common in Jeeps with larger wheels and tires. Installing larger wheels and tires on a suspension that was not designed for them usually causes problems. Some instantly, like your problem. Others over time like early failure of wheel bearings or ball joints etc.
If you believe its balance, take it to an old school place that can balance on the vehicle. This is the absolute best, and only way to properly balance a tire. It balances your entire rotating assembly, brake discs and bearings with your wheel and tire. Everything that rotates as you roll down the road is in true balance.
Static balance? Total waste of money. Spin balance off the car? Slightly better than static.
All you're really doing is balancing your wheel/tire assembly to that machine, not your car.
My two cents worth.
