Vette(s): 1984 base coupe 17,000 miles all original. very low production number.red on red 3853. pro num.
i called the original dealer ship that my 84 was delivered to from the factory, and ask them if they could give me any information on my 84. believe me or not the salesman that sold my 84 new was still there. we talked for awhile and he told me he remembered the car also the costumer who bought it new from him. however by law he couldn't give his name or address, and no information about him. all he told me was that the genital man that bought the car was and local attorney. he also remembered what the owner wanted on the car. he told me they ordered a 3.07 rear gear 9.5 rear alum rims. on a earlier post i mention my car had 9.5 alum rims on the rear. just about everyone said a basic vette had 8.5 rims all around. i ask the salesman about that. he told me it was up to the dealer to order what the customer wanted.at an extra cost. he remembered the owner didn't want the z51 package. these where the only options put on the car. well that explains why my 84 had the 9.5 rims on the rear. i asked him about the trga top he said he couldn't remember. I'm glad that sales man is still there. hes going to try to get the original owner a call to see if he will talk to me about the history of my 84. as far as i know I'm the second owner.Wink

The dealer could add anything they wanted to the cars for sale. If a customer wanted the car with the 9 1/2" rear rims, tho, it would not have come from the factory like that, as far as I know. The dealer would absolutely add the larger rims to the car, if that's what the customer wanted, and was willing to pay for them. If it came from the factory with the larger rims, it would absolutely be noted on the build sheet.

joel, the salesman told me that the dealer added the 9.5 rims at an extra cost. 3.07 rear gear is on the build sheet.

Wow, that'll be a blast to talk with the original owner! Having background info like that would help a lot when going for a Top Flight grade. Neat! When I pulled my seats out to recover them we found some clues (plus 43 cents) to the original owner but when GM shut down a bunch of dealerships in '09 the one mine was sold from closed and the trail goes cold.

I look at the reflection of the Original Owner of my 85 every morning while shaving.

The easiest cars to judge, and best educational examples of cars in NCRS are the OO cars. The OO will usually tell you what they know about an item. Unless its at Crossed Flags Judging. Then they make you work for it.
