Topic: Brake upgrade
in Forum: C4 Handling Components
Last year I upgraded the brakes on my '87. I put 2004 model year (C5) calipers on the front which made a huge difference for the good. Now it stops like I tossed out the Queen Mary's anchor but the feel is great too. The control at the pedal is very smooth and predictable. Something to be aware of is the bigger brake hardware needs bigger wheels to clear.
My shopping list was.......
2004 C5 front calipers....$260/pair on Ebay
2004 C5 drilled and slotted rotor for front.... $160/pair
2004 C5 front pads.......$0/set (came free with front rotors)
Russell performance brake hoses (F/R)......$77 from Advanced Auto online
1987 C4 rear rotors (drilled & slotted) $110 from Ebay
C4 rear pads to match front compound ......$45 from Ebay
C5 to C4 caliper adapter bracket ~$100 on Ebay
Absolutely the best change I made so far.

The pic in your signature shows 16" wheels. C5's had 18" front wheels. I know when we go to 13" C5 rotors on our Syclones and Typhoons we have to upgrade to a minimum of a 17" wheel, and even then there can be clearance problems.
Just curious.

If you have smoking brakes, either you're pushing them hard or there's something wrong there.
