took the 90 to inspection today. i was expecting to fail the emissions test but was pleasantly surprised as it passed that part. while the car was getting put back together, i installed new brake pads. the only thing i never thought to check was the e-brake and guess what it failed?

i read the fsm and it really is slightly confusing. it talks about the automatic cable adjuster inside the car and it shows an adjustment on the caliper. anyone know the proper way to adjust the e-brake on a 90? sure wish it was like the older ones the had an adjusting screw in the cable. btw.. i need to tighten it up so it holds the car still when applied.

thanks for any help.  dave

There is a reel in the park brake assembly---which is a sort of ratcheting type mechanism----cycling the lever up and down a few times should (if the automatic adjuster is working) do the trick.  This system IMO is nothing more than a parking brake--- to hold the car on a hill/incline etc.

As I remember there was a recall on the park brake on yours----which involved replacing the park lever assembly (the park brake would become inoperative)---something was breaking/seperating in the assembly--- not sure what.
